Well, despite growing up in Florida's "Hurricane Alley", and sitting thru more of them than I can count, and knowing how media really makes it much worse than it is... I'm worried.

See that bump of barrier islands halfway down Florida's coast on the east? Well, that is exactly where the hurricane is supposed to hit with maximum strength. And exactly where my brother is sitting - I know he won't evacuate.

We don't talk much and he'll probably laugh at me if I call to check on him -- hopefully I will feel good enough to call him this evening anyway.

I hate, hate, hate feeling worried and out of control.

I am of the thought that men and women are equal. I think there are
advantages and disadvantages that go with either sex. I sorta believe it all kind of equals out in the long run. Trying to be good and happy people is something both sexes share imo.

Just got a text from my brother -- he thinks his house will be gone, and wishes he had headed inland yesterday. He will stay at his girlfriends - guess he boarded up her home this morning.

I sure do wish I didn't have these illnesses that magnify anxiety and worry so much. I may need to take medication to deal with a hurricane that is 500 miles away! Ridiculousness.

Gulf-coast-ish. Southwest of the state. Might get some rain and wind,but it is relatively safe.

Thanks. I am trying to figure out how in the heck I'm going to sleep tonight!!! If power goes out (expected) and cell towers go out (not unexpected), waiting will be pure torture.

Whew. Breathing again! Homes are okay in Florida. Feels like I held my breath all night. We were very seriously concerned, even after living there 58 years and weathering so very many storms. Hope everyone else fares as well.

All good here--BF's dad said they made it through with no damage. Some trees down near the beach, but that was to be expected.

Yes, cold here for me too. Haven't used the furnace yet. Think I'll try baking something so the oven will warm the house a bit. At least no threat of snow.

Joyce, I know everybody appreciates the "smilers". It is something we look forward to every day.

I don't see much of a warm up in our weather in the future. fifties and sixties from here on in. Unless something happens. Maybe we will get some warm air from that hurricane. I don't know. I am bummed. I did have a good day yesterday while it was still nice, so I am thankful for that.

I am thinking about baking today too. I have been making home made muffins a lot lately. Just don't eat them. Pass them out to everybody else. Fattening... I have some baby back ribs I was thinking about making today but I am going to town and maybe getting stuff for tacos which I love.

Well, finished baking and the house is now 72 degrees. Feels good for a change. I thought our lows next week (in the 60's) was tough...but when I read your temps... felt lucky.

I made Pumpkin bread. Had the can of pumpkin left from last fall, when I never made the pie. Had the rest of the ingredients on hand....except only 5 eggs instead of 6 that the recipe called for. OH, also had to substitute some brown sugar for white.... Thank goodness tomorrow morning is shopping day.

It's cooling now, so don't know if it's 'edible' ! ....but I'm not picky (and the birds and deer might like it)

Your ribs sound yummy. Eating alone I don't bake them any longer waaaah.
How do you do your tacos. I've never tried. Would like something new

My tacos are probably really burritos because I use soft shells. But I brown the ground beef, season with the mix. I put tomatoes, lettuce and onions on them. Plus salsa, sour cream, refried beans and taco sauce. So they are kind of like a wet burrito. They are filling, I can only eat one. I also have avocado too if I have it. I think I remembered everything.

I use to get the taco bell seasoning and I really liked it. I don't see it anymore. So I get Ortega. There is another one too.

I didn't make the ribs today and I didn't even make it to town. I made tuna macaroni salad. And guess what? The sun came out so I may still take a walk.

I really dread winter coming. I hope it is mild this year. Last year and the year before were real hard. We had cold and a lot of snow. But last year it did wait to snow until about Christmas, so that wasn't too bad. One day at a time I guess.

Thanks for the taco recipe, Karen. I'll save it and hopefully give it a try one of these days. Of course, I've never had a burrito either. Boy, I'm out of touch with the culinary world

The pumpkin bread was (semii) OK. At least edible...Seemed a bit low on flavoring. Should have used more spices, or mine have lost oomph. they've been around quite awhile. I've got some cream cheese frosting on hand. Maybe that will help.

Pumpkin cranberry sounds awesome. I made some cranberry orange muffins last week from scratch. I have been getting into making the muffins but trying not to eat any. Easier said than done...

I bet the cream cheese will add to the flavor Joyce. I found my cinnamon lost it's umph too. I put a ton of it in some apple sauce and I can't even barely taste it. I got some new and it only needed a bit. Some of mine have been in the jars for years. Some I don't even use anymore. Time to clean up the spices.

Trina, if it were to rain here it would most likely snow. I hope that this weather backs off and it is nice again for a week or so. Oh well, I guess that is Michigan for me. You never know what it is going to do. They say if you don't like the weather, wait a minute and it will change. Ha...

Had wondered why we had not heard from him

Scary experience this morning.
Got up early...when I went to let the cat outside and turned on the deck light the power went off at that exact second. Didn't know if it was a widespread outage...or just ME. Anyway, all is now functiong. A stressful hour.
