Hi. I'm new to any forum, let alone this one. I am struggling with depression and a day doesn't go by without my thinking about suicide. I have struggled with depression since I was around 12. In and out of care, which helped. One of the biggest things I am struggling with is medical help. I have lost my health care, which at one time, I had an excellent job and health care. Now, in addition to having a terrible time getting a decent job I have no health care. I have other medical issues, SLE, Fibro Myalgia and Migraines. I am diagnosed with Bi-Polar II and depression.

I am in the Ocala, FL. area and need help with resources for a source to talk to someone and assistance with meds. I am with Heart of Florida, but only for minimal health care. I know reaching out is the right thing to do, but I just keep running into wall after wall for help that doesn't cost. The doctors here don't seem to be involved.

Does anyone know of resources that can help? Thanks.

Years ago I was on Charity Care at a local hospital mental health clinic. I received my meds through the clinic.

There was another medication that I needed for a non mental health condition and was able to use the Peoples Prescription Assistance program. I got those meds through the mail, for free, from a program set up by the pharmaceutical company that made them. I think the network is still active today. I had to get a prescription from my primary care physician and we had forms to fill out but once it was completed, I got 90 days worth in the mail like clockwork. I hope this is still being offered and that it helps you get what you need.

That's why I joined one of these helplines to begin with, to try and help solve problems when I'm in a "by myself" situation.

So, I think you're doing the right thing by joining a helpline.

As a manic-depressive, I get free psychiatric help from a place called American Work. I say free, I think it's free because I get it from Medicare for senior citizens.

Medicaid, for younger people who can't pay, I don't know if you qualify for that or not. You might want to check that out on the net, or your local phone book on the net, etc.

You might want to go to your phone book, or net local phonebook, and type in "Mental Health Care" (or "Psychiatric Care") for your hometown. Write down the entries, their phone numbers and location, and then go down the list calling.

It's harder to make decisions when you having any kind of trouble, so you might want to be aware of that, of possibly not making any progress because it can be hard to do when you're both the caretaker and the patient.

Also, the longer you go without getting treatment, the worse the condition can get, and the even more difficult to make decisions ca become. So you want to jump on this as soon as you can, before the situation becomes worse.

But it can be done. Looking up these phone numbers is a start, and checking off the phone numbers.

Do you have anyone who can help you? Tring to be positive that you can do this is a big help, otherwise you could be like me going in a thousand circles, but no step forward.

How about letting us know what your local phone book/net yellow pages says about "psychiatric help", and which ones you may have called. I could look it up right here since you've told us what city it is, Ocala, Fla.

I am big on coping skills, facing the monster. So the first link it to a meditation class. Very helpful to get in touch with feelings. I Journal after I meditate. Something Ah Ha! Comes to me most times.
