Plans for today...neighbor will come over and help patch the roof, then set a post for a new outdoor electrical outlet, then I will work on grandsons' Halloween costume.
Looking out the window, the mums are still blooming like crazy and looking fantastic. The Montauk daisies are still giving quite a show and the smaller, new plants are just starting to bloom! The berries on the pyracanthus bush are a bright, deep orange. So appropriate for this time of year! A few of the leaves on the burning bush are beginning to turn their crimson color and the peonies leaves are a lovely bronze. So much color!
Some of the neighbors tell me they come by every day to see all of the changes. A few have been inspired to get some of the same plants to keep their yards 'alive' longer into the season. Two of my canna plants are still putting out blossoms! Tonight we have a freeze warning. Hopefully, my proximity to the ocean will keep us just warm enough to not lose what is left.
I brought in the amaryllis bulbs yesterday. One of them bloomed during the summer, so I doubt I'll get flowers this winter from it. In the spring, I separated the bulblet one had given me. It's too young to expect it to bloom yet, but it is thriving! I've put out one bird suet block and one birdseed bell so far. The birds aren't showing much interest in them yet but at least they are out there for when all of the natural food is exhausted.
Just remembered something to add to the 'to do' list for today...must find my winter coat! Hope everyone that's been sick is feeling better today and that everyone else has a wonderful day.
