hello my friends. was productive yesterday. weeding, pruning, and pulled down a gate. today, less productive, but still doin' stuff. just on me walk around the forums. be good.

I said on Friday Nov. 11, 16, that the below would be the first item in the column for Saturday, since Joyce needs some time off:

I was going to say, Irving Berlin wrote "White Christmas" from his California hotel room at Christmas, as he was wishing he was in his native New York. Thus, "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas," not that he was actually having one.

On the flip side, John Phillips, leader of the "Mamas and the Poppas," wrote "California Dreamin" while in New York, which was having its usual dreary, cold December, knowing his wife, Michelle Phillips, was longing for the year-round warm weather of her hometown of L.A.

Those two songs also showed where the center of the entertainment industry was at the time they were written.

No, I was glad you "overtook" the Irvin Berlin story of how and where he wrote White Christmas. It gave me a great lead in to tell about White Christmas having been written in L.A., and California Dreamin' having been written in N.Y.

Also, I read about Berlin being in a group of musicians living within a block or two of each other in N.Y., each creating their new songs on pianos which reminded one person of "tin pans," thus the "Tin Pan Ally" neighborhood, which you referred to in a column or two past.

I've already gotten tomorrow's column written.

Here’s how the song came about:

“I was just writing for this album that was up and coming, and that was one of the songs. My brother Randy was playing this little riff and I said, "Gee, I really like that riff, that's great."

"All of a sudden, "Think of your fellow man, lend him a helping hand, put a little love in your heart," came just like that. I owe some of that to my mom, because she was always saying that people should put a little love in their heart when things are not so good. I'd like to say it was very difficult, but it was one of those songs you wait a lifetime to write.”

“Of course, I was watching it every week as it went up the charts. It's so thrilling to be part of something like that.”

“But they (WABC in New York) went on it early and then the rest of the country went on it. The airplay was great, and in those days if you had a record in rotation, that could be very good money. I was actually able to buy a car for my dad, and I bought a house for my parents.

“A lot of people still know that song. I did quite a lot of touring with that song. I went to a lot of places where I would just ask people off the street, or if I was doing a show and I was early, I would ask someone that was setting up tables, "Have you ever heard the song 'Put a Little Love In Your Heart'?" And they'd always say, 'Oh, yeah.'

(She could then tell them she wrote and sung it.) It was so popular, 60 other singers recorded it.

a bit agitated and chaotic. oh well. keep well and strong. nz got another quake, south island. got family there. back soon, u know, i am no good when i am sh@tty. i get expressive, maybe defiant, a little....i was beginning to get testy on one forum. least i am honest.

You ever have one of those perfect weekends where you do absolutely nothing? The best part? I had lots of energy and could have done stuff if I wanted to, but decided to watch TV instead.

I believe my spirit animal is a sloth.

I know what you mean F27. Though I rarely get energetic days. But there is nothing wrong with relaxing.

I hope everybody has a good day today. I thought it was going to rain but it is partly sunny now. Though there are high thin clouds. I am off for a walk. After I get dressed. After lunch and after hubby gets home. I am still going to walk though. I promise.

TimTam--a girl I went to college with made a Hallmark Christmas movie--and a few others. It's always fun to land on the channel and see her.

Still very down. Gwen Ifill's death shook me very hard. I watch NewsHour every night,and have long admired her strength and grace. Like many others, I noted her absence from coverage a few weeks before the election. I saw the breaking news yesterday afternoon.

Interview went okay--it is a temp job but could go permanent.

BTW--this is OT-but I just stopped by fibro board--and a woman posted that fibro is really Lyme, and is a GMO, and we should all get tested. These random Lyme folks come on every so often--which is kind of funny in its own way. But I decided to pop into the Lyme forum--and was actually kinda appalled by the conspiracy theories about government cover-up and refusal to spend money for a test/cure because then they would have to admit it is man-made.
