I take Trazodone for sleep, I've done so for many years now. My sleep issues were pretty major -- I take 300 mg nightly. I generally fall asleep within an hour of taking it.
In my opinion, if you take it and slow everything down and get into bed, and it *still* takes you up to 2 hours to fall asleep, then you need to increase the dosage. You should be falling asleep within an hour or so of taking it.
Those were the directions I was given and how I ended up at my current dosage. (I've been at 300 mg for over 10 years, so no need to worry about "getting used to it" and needing more, that hasn't happened for me.)
