If anyone is diagnosed with CPTSD, you may be amazed at this book.

From the first page of the introduction, I found myself saying "someone gets it!"; "someone actually understands" ; "I can not believe I am actually reading about how I feel and what I can do about it!"

This is such a wonderful addition to my therapy, EMDR and journaling. My therapist was more than happy to get a copy himself to be on the same page [so to speak] in case I needed guidance and he could refer to the book, from references in my journal.

I encourage everyone to be their own advocate and work hard so you 'have' a diagnosis, instead of the diagnosis 'having you'.

As the quote in the book states; "You are not broken, in need of fixing. Rather, you are deeply hurt, in need of care."

This rings so loud and true for me. What about you?

I am so sorry. Certainly I did not intend to mean to offend anyone, much less diminish anyone's hardship.

PTSD can also result from traumatic experiences in adulthood, even to those who had a had the happiest childhood. I merely meant to point out the target audience for this particular book, based on samples and reviews found online. I'm sorry if I was too blunt... perhaps it was my effort to be concise. Hopefully this is just a misunderstanding. There are millions of adults having difficulty coping with deep emotional problems that may have struck them well into their adult life. Hopefully you can understand where I'm coming from.

This is what makes this site so supportive.

It is commonly forgotten that communication is stunted over the tech media. Inflecations, tones and nuances are lost so many times.

It is only with continued chat, back and forth, honest feelings, remembering we all have luggage and hopefully realizing that it comes from different places, that we can truly support each other.

For me, it was not meant but simply omitted in my enthusiasm, that yes, PTSD is different from Complex-PTSD [CPTSD].

I call this a new wringle in my brain. When ever we learn something, our brains incur a new wrinkle. I find this fascinating.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) can happen simply from one traumatic event (there is a diagnostic criteria for PTSD).

Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) is when there has been long term trauma were there is no way out of the situation as in: Concentration camps, Prisoner of War camps, Long-term domestic violence,
Long-term child physical abuse, Long-term child sexual abuse and probably other examples. The key words here are Long Term. Children have no means of escape and learn to endure what they need to and really, children know nothing else than what they are born into. It is possible for adults to have CPTSD. Those stories of women that have disappeared or kidnapped and were found many years later held captive. They would have CPTSD.
