I just signed up,I don't even know what I am doing nor why. I Am in constant pain due to spinal stenosis and arthritis. My Husband of 39 years in August had a major stroke 8 years ago because he would NOT take any high blood pressure medicine, so I have to care for him, He can do some things, but he won't. He yells at me all the time, I am at the end of my rope. HELP. idea

I know, right? It's a question that's older than this forum - who helps when the caregivers need care?

Hang around and get to know people here. You will never, ever, find a more understanding bunch.

Since I can't really do anything to help, I decided to cut n paste a joke:

The Wisdom of the Navajo



A woman is driving toward home in Northern Arizona when she sees a Navajo woman hitchhiking. Because the trip had been long and quiet, she stops the car and the Navajo woman climbs in.



During their small talk, the Navajo woman glances surreptitiously at a brown bag on the front seat between them. "If you're wondering what's in the bag," offers the woman, "it's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."



The Navajo woman is silent for a while, nods several times and says, "Good trade!"

I'm flashing back to my Mom and Dad. So, I have to wonder, any adult children in the picture that could help? If not, what about a respite worker?

I worked in a few nursing homes. I know it's silly to suggest you not take his yelling personally. What else could it be but personal? Still, you might be able to 'balance' it if you have photo albums filled with pictures of happier times. Stroke can cause brain damage in an area of the brain that seems to make the person nasty.

I remember my Mom having to 'threaten' my Dad that if he didn't let her give him a shower, she would call me to do it!

Now, what are you doing for Your pain issues? What have you tried? Are you seeing just a GP or do you have a pain management doctor? Are you being treated for the stress of being primary care giver? Are there support groups near you?

I'm glad you found us but sorry for the reason you had to seek us out. Keep posting. This place helps, a lot!

I hope that things get better. I know it is hard being a caregiver especially when we are also in pain. Do what you can. You will be blessed. But I agree with Pitmom, could you get some help??? I would check around and see what is offered for some relief for you, the caregiver.

It isn't easy. Take care of you through all of this.
