Thought I would start this thread with Pitmom's last post as it is all about her lovely flowers.



Had a nice weekend. My partner and I have made a commitment to nip negativity in the bud and it's working!

Not sure if my daughter being away had something to do with it. Her habit of not being very helpful during the week and then making a 'show' of it when my partner is here on the weekend to 'witness' it...who knows?

As far as the garden goes...the tomatoes are ripening nicely. So far, I've harvested 7 of the regular sized and dozens of the cherry ones. NO cucumbers though!

The day lilies are officially done. Now, a brief waiting period until the mums begin their show. The attention getters are the potted plants just now. I've grouped them along the front walkway for the most interest. The butterfly bush has pushed out more deep purple blooms and I've moved them to the front of the walk, just past the arch. The tickseeds are continuing to bloom nicely alongside the blanket flowers and yellow cone flowers. I've been being visited by black swallowtail butterflies along with the monarchs.

The canna continue to send up new shoots of blossoms, too. The young 'baby' hibiscus blooms are so pink! I'm so amazed that a 10 inch high plant can produce 8 inch wide flowers! They really brighten up the shaded seating area on the main patio. So glad I rearranged the seating there as the previous arrangement would have blocked the view.

My fountain is 'out of order' for the moment. I had to fill it every day for some reason and then the other day, it was empty in only 2 hours! Today may be the day I deal with that mystery. There's obviously a leak somewhere but with it in the shade, the ground is always a bit damp around it so, where it's leaking has yet to be determined.

The flower colors are a confirmation that summer is winding down. The deep purple morning glories, the golden black eyed susans, even the ripening grasses are starting to show their tawny shadings. Time to start thinking about swapping out the blue cushions for more autumnal colors.

Thank you Jamie, looking more like he may get out tomorrow. They wanted to do stress tests on him today.

Kelly I am happy you are feeling better. My depression has been in remission for few years now. Yay!!!

Pitmom, I love home grown tomatoes. Even just sliced with salt. My favorite though is a slice of tomato, a slice of mozzarella cheese, a basil leaf and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar/oil. YUM!

Karen, that is so great to hear. I am changing the way I talk "to" and "about" myself. I am making a point of going to a Clubhouse for Behavioral Health in my County. Isolation led me to my "deepest and longest depression" and I have learned that I never want to get that depressed again. I reached out spiritually and go prayer. It's just that when I was so deep in the pitt, I had 'leaden paralysis" and "hypersomnolence." I think I became so lonely (which is usually not the case for me b/c when I'm not depressed, I actually like alone time), that I experienced depersonalization / derealization. That MDD was a monster. I'm keeping a journal now and will continue to see both P-doc and therapist. I have a lot of work to do in the area of "sleep." I have "delayed sleep phase sydrome" " and it wreaks havoc on my life and my health.

I learned to do meditation to help myself fall asleep. That is a big part of it. I don't always stay asleep, but most of the time I sleep for about 4 hours before I wake up to go to the bathroom. So it does help. Just another way to control the mind. Calm it...

It sounds like you are doing good. Keep up the fantastic work. I will write more. I have to go now.

Karen, can you recommend a "beginner technique" or video? I've tried many times to meditate and just can't seem to get the hang of it. I'd really like to learn because so many people find peace through meditation. I do "breathing exercises" (with counting) though. I should learn the "progressive relaxation" techniques too.

I have quite similar symptoms like yours and medicines seem to solve all.I have chronic sleep issues which make me more sick.

Kelly, I don't know what videos would help but you could try you-tube videos. I basically repeat my mantra over and over and breathe with that. It makes it so that is the only thing I am thinking about and I fall asleep. Let me know if you want some instructions, I will email you.

Karen, sorry to hear of the health issues with hubby. Hope things are getting straightened out.

HT, so happy to hear about your washing machine! I know what a convenience it is to have mine, you must be thrilled!

As for sleep...during the week I throw a NCIS dvd in and fall asleep within about 10 minutes. I've watched these repeatedly and my brain remembers how the storyline ends, so I don't stay awake. On the weekends, when my partner is here though, she is used to silence and it takes me forever to fall asleep!

Drizzly weather this morning. At least the steps under the tree are still dry so I had a place to sit while the dogs did their business! Planning on putting up the new baby gate and seeing how the dogs react to not being able to leave the hallway. The goal is to retire the dog crates altogether.

Got my new issue of Garden Gate magazine. Know what I'll be doing on this rainy day! This issue is about dividing what you already have and storing plants over the winter! Several pages devoted to canna plants! Yay for me!

On a more serious note, those of you that pray, please include my brother Dean in your prayers...he's been having a series of 'mini-strokes' and is in a rehab. Thank you all for healing thoughts.

cleaning up, getting linkedin account sorted, almost. dinner been cancelled with sis as partner sick. got bloods for lamictal levels, do that tomorrow, pay mum a visit too. and go the the gov office, next door to the vampires to see how many hours and $ i can safely earn without being booted off disability. bad munchies lately, increase got me. windy here. keep well.

did vampires, and gov. maybe mum tomoz. playing the very best of black sabbath vol 1 & 2. am in this type of mood. i love tony iommi and bill ward on drums. timeless stuff. but i reckon ronnie had more range than ozzie. lost of singers they had. however my fav is an ozzie track, symptom of the universe.

Saw my doctor yesterday for 'standard med refills' and asked him about the lump forming on the back of my right wrist. I'm concerned it's another ganglion cyst forming. He doesn't think so but, told me to get a 'hard' splint and wear it constantly, even during sleep. Sigh.

Took my grandson to the water park yesterday. It's our annual tradition. Unfortunately, the buddy he'd invited developed an ear ache and couldn't go along. Saved me money! Plus, we got there after 3 p.m. after waiting to see if his ear had improved, which meant we paid less for entrance to the park. Saved a bit more money! He found a couple of other teens to 'hang out with', so it was a good enough time.

Meanwhile, my neck is killing me from driving! My spine is a mess from sitting first on the sand and then in a plastic Adirondack chair with no cushion! But, it is all worth it!

We set up the hibachi last night and toasted marshmallows! Two of the neighbors stopped by and joined us. What a pleasant end to the day!

Warm and sunny today. Not too humid either. Not expecting much from the garden today...harvested 7 more tomatoes yesterday! I moved the amaryllis to where they'll get a bit more sun. Hoping it will trigger another one to give me flowers.

The morning glories are true to their name! The sedums are starting to show a bit of color and should be outstanding this year. I've been seeing butterflies every day checking to see what the upcoming buffet will be like! A few rose campion have bloomed late and added their striking magenta blooms to the changing array. The goldfinches are busy on the sunflowers and coneflowers.

I had the patio lights on for a while after the coals had died down in the hibachi and just sat back and listened to the chorus provided by the tree frogs and the crickets. So relaxing and great for meditation! I may do it again tonight!

All all are doing well. So happy to hear gardens are prospering.

this past weekend we traded our young cone fir tree [ornamental] for their ornamental Japanese star maple.

This works better in both yards, as they already have 3 sculpture type evergreens that are over 10yrs old, and we have 2, 20 yr old reg. size Japanese star maples at each end of our from property

We place the small tree just left of the house, I need to prune it as it has not been done for 3 years. I have waiting at least a week, to let is settle from the 'shock' of being transplanted.

I was down with pain, and did not see neighbor and John switch them.. My sweetheart is not a gardener to be kind! smile

Sometimes it's the little things that push us over the edge.

I've been thinking for a while now that my relationship of 15.5 years is really going nowhere, that I need to move on somehow. Hard habits to break, but not finding much joy here, and we don't live together or "have relations" anyway. Just pretty apathetic, and wanting to pull (far) away from even a peck of a kiss. So there is that.

I have a tortoiseshell cat, Shadow, my second one, who is 17.5. My first one, Shea, passed on at 16, in 2000. The "other" tortie in my life belongs to good friends, and is younger than mine. I just found out Paprika passed away yesterday. I didn't know anything was going poorly for her! My torties have always been single-person cats, but Pappy loved everyone. She'd sit on your shoulders for hours as you walked around and did whatever - try to get her off and she'd dig her claws in! Parties at my friends will never be the same!

Tears in my eyes over the cat, but not my relationship.

Some days are like that, I guess.

I guess they are Lynnwood. I am sorry for your kitty loss. When I was young, we always had a cat. Now I am mostly a dog person. Though I like cats. Except when I am feeding the birds and they come in and try to eat them.

I am sorry for your relationship (or lack there of). It sounds like moving on could be a good thing. Maybe put yourself out there a little bit and meet some people. If that is what you are into. I am glad you have Shadow... I wish I knew what a tortoise shell cat looked like. I am picturing kind of a brindle...

I hope your day got better yesterday and that today is nice.

I understand how you feel loosing your cat. You gave that cat a life, animals give us unconditional love and sometimes we get used to that and don't realize it until after they are gone.

My thoughts are with you and I empathize with your relationship situation, have you tried couples counseling is that a possibility?

Whatever you do know that you are not alone that we are here for you and to listen and to support

Myself, Great counting! Made me laugh, and that's always a big plus!

Getting ready for a (Eclipse) Totality Party tomorrow. Making a marbled sour cream pound cake... I haven't baked a cake in probably 25+ years! Not in the path here, but will be with a (hopefully short) 80 mile drive to a friends home. Really hoping not to run into a traffic nightmare.

did ya spot the HT myself!! uni gig was alright, i was real drained, and had bad anxiety, however excellent feedback from students, staff and alike. i dressed nice, dress shoes, nice shirt and vest. i took the bus in. mega huge campus, lots of walking to find the med school then a another trundle to the lecture theatre. i used one of last yrs cab vouchers for home, but i handed one back, the head of school said you should have used it, but it was not offered, thus the buddhist mentality of it aint mine came out.
early night, not much shut eye last night. these students were a bit tense, so when it came to questions i grabbed the mike and said, i am not a comfort eater, i am pregnant, that got em going.
