RobLee - so glad to hear you and your loved ones are also safe. Sorry to hear that your treatments must be postponed but you have such a great attitude naming the dent in your car "Irma." Keeping all in my thoughts and prayers.

Scored a few more good looking plants on clearance. Keeping the color going as long as I can!

Caterpillar count is down again...thinking they've made their chrysalis (sp?) and may have new butterflies in about one more week! The daisies should be blooming by then, no coincidence!

Was glad that my penchant for trolling fb led to being able to tell my neighbor/friend that I saw a post that her son, in Cudjoe Key, made it safely through Irma.

Tug of war going on in my brain. I had the money for the window trim...daughters' application for Medicaid has not gone through yet...she needs her life sustaining medication...wiped out my 'trim' savings to pay for her meds. On the one hand, I'm grateful the money was here. On the other hand, I'm resentful that it didn't get spent on what was planned. Once again, my 'want to' had to be put aside for a 'have to'.

Adding to it all is poor sleep for the past week. I feel drained, foggy, unmotivated.

Oh, and did I mention that I don't have Netflix! lol

I have a bizarre infestation of harlequin bugs. Never had them before--they seem to adore nasturtiums.

Thanks Kelly... News update: electric power just came on tonite at 9PM.

Some neighbors are still without, but tonite we get to enjoy a hot shower and a comfortable night's sleep in air conditioning... and no more flashlights!

Glad many made it through with the least amount of discomfort. We have family in Palm Beach and Tampa--and they got through okay as well.

Working today and playing with my new computer. ***ah*** It is faster, more memory, and bigger than my old one--and the keyboard is excellent. The space key never worked properly on my old one, so I spent a lot of time correcting everything I wrote. Heading to garden here in a bit--check the status of the harlequin bugs and the radishes.

Checking in. Harlequin bugs ate some radishes, some broccoli rabe, and bok choy. I sprayed the plants with neem oil and soap. I hope the seedlings can bounce back. Here is a site with info about the Harlequins. Interesting and very attractive insects--but really destructive.

Love my new computer!!

Having some grief lately about Mom. I looked at a picture of her from May--and realized no more Christmases, birthdays, no more holidays.

Haven't 'checked in' here for some time...but hope to continue to do so.

Sorry to read about your Mom. The loss of loved ones is even more difficult at holiday time. My husband of 57 years is also a memory now

If the milk on cereal this morning has gone bad....is the Cheese Cake made yesterday also bad and should it be discarded?

Hello all.

I haven't slept well for a month now. Waking repeatedly due to pain or night sweats or having to pee. So frustrated and irritable.

More and more it looks like my daughter and grandson will not be moving out. Mixed feelings here. While I would like to have the house to myself again, I didn't like the idea of them moving clear across the country.

Home improvement projects on hold due to the weather. Things should be good after Hurricane Jose passes. We're only expecting tropical storm conditions here.

Now, for the garden report...The burgundy mums I ordered are more of a dark hot pink. The 'bronze' ones appear to be burgundy! Sigh. Not sure how this will affect my 'plans', yet.

The Japanese anemone has started blooming! Such delicate blossoms! Hoping the wind doesn't tear it apart before I get to see the 'whole show'. The last bud on the hardy lily has opened and can be seen from the kitchen window. I'll be moving both plants closer to the front of the bed for next year. They're pretty well blocked from view by the planted mums.

More leaves are changing color now. I've seen 2 new monarch butterflies, drying their wings before flying off to their winter retreat. Hopefully, I'll see more, stopping to take advantage of the asters, mums and daisies as they travel south. I have a small stand of goldenrod that 'planted itself' in the back yard amidst the wild baby's breath.

I have the next two weeks to figure out the decorations for October. First half, harvest theme. Second half is Halloween. Then transition to Thanksgiving. Oh, what fun!

Hi Joyce. Good to see you, although I'm sorry to hear you've been going through tough things.

Yes, I still have my dog. Her name is Micah. I don't get to enjoy a walk with her very often any more, though. Every few steps I've been experiencing sharp shooting pains up my spine. The other complication to walking her is that we have to leave her brother, Tyson, behind and he has really bad separation anxiety...howling and barking...so, no walks unless either my daughter or grandson walks him, too. Then, they 'compete' to be in front, so it's hardly enjoyable. I miss it.

They pretty much have to settle for me sitting in a chair and throwing the ball about 20 feet for them to see who can catch it first. It's funny because when Tyson catches it he never was taught to bring it back, so he 'gives' it to Micah and she brings it back to me to throw again.

We've cut down a lot on the treats, as both were overweight and that's really not good for dogs. The lack of exercise is the real culprit but unless I pay someone to walk them, it's not happening.

I'm glad your son is considering returning to treatment. Hopefully, the issues that have come to light will be sorted out gently.

Sorry to hear about your pain. Has it been diagnosed?

Lovely day...should be out doing some leaf raking instead of here on computer...but no energy.
Whew...just got a phone call from fire company...Hazardous material explosion uptown.
Good grief, when will problems end.

Hello all.

Joyce, yes, my back issues are diagnosed and being treated. Degenerative disc disorder, narrowing of the nerve openings, a touch of arthritis...have had epidural injections with varying relief, use a t.e.n.s. unit, take meds, etc. Basically, getting older. Sigh.

I get a lot of pleasure from 'the puppies'. They are siblings, 5 1/2 years old but still so playful, each weighing in at approx. 85lbs each. Tyson, my daughters' dog used to sniff constantly at my daughters' right eye. Turns out that is where her tumor was, behind the right eye! Since her surgery, no more sniffing. Micah gives structure to my day. Morning exercise, afternoon exercise, feeding, etc. Most nights, one or the other is curled up on the rug next to my bed and I feel very safe!

The cats that I had before getting Micah mostly 'tolerate' her presence. Tigger, my epileptic, visually impaired tiger striped loves to rub up against Micah every chance he gets! My daughters' cats on the other hand will curl up with either one at the drop of a hat! Her orange 'Hemmingway' (extra toes) thinks he too is a pitbull and will be in 'the dog yard' with them at exercise time. He loves to be under the steps and swat out at them as they pass by chasing the ball!

All of this has helped my neighbors see the breed in quite a different light than what most of the media portrays. The fact that these two ignore the other neighborhood cats completely has made particular impact on one of the 'cat ladies' here. I took great pains to teach them 'leave it' and 'ignore it', not just for cats but also the squirrels and rabbits around here. Apparently, the message works for other creatures just as well...Micah and I were out for a walk a couple of years ago when suddenly a huge turkey vulture landed on the grass about 10 feet from us and Micah just sat down, seemingly just as mystified as I was!!!!!!!!!! Then, it beat it's tremendous wings a few times and soared up onto the chimney of the house across the road! Awesome!

After reading I immediately went to the fridge and tossed out the remainder........fearing that I might snack on it today. Waaah, those pretty cherries are gone, too.

Don't think he can help with this next 'food' item.
I have almost 50 pounds of corn. My husband fed the deer.
Decided to continue ...but when I opened the bag it was gooey and smelly.
Think this will go into the dumpster today, too

Watch that corn, get rid of it. It can spontaneously combust. I had a bag of corn once and it started smoking. I just don't trust it if it gets wet or anything.

Pitmom. Lovely furry family you have. I enjoyed hearing about them.
I have a former feral cat that keeps me company (and warm)

Got a particular kick out of the Vulture experience. Just recently I saw one land on my bird bath....not as close as you and Micah were...but was shocked at how large it is.

Hope the injections eventually help your back. My sciatica required surgery. I'm not 'getting older'...I'm already there. Ouch, ouch.

got a letter yesterday, which freaked me. a world wide alert for cardiac surgery patients regarding heater cooler units that they use to regulate temperature for bloods and medicines. these units may have come infected with mycobacterium chimarea. apparently a small number is purported and effected units discarded. this infection can take 5 years to manifest and i have some of the symptoms.
i just been and got me results for crp, ana, ccp and ra. lupus, negative, crp negative, ra slightly elevated. had physio today. he did acupuncture on lower back, as it is a brick, massage, he thought he was breaking my pelvis, i said go for it, and then he gave me some heat. this infection is meant to be very rare can transfer to open heart patients. it is all over the net and the world. this alert. i have rang the hosp, am awaiting a reply.

looks like me bro going to removed from the disgusting conditions he lives in. the gov peeps are coming to assess mon. his support team are not allowed to enter, he will be removed due to health and safety. looks like mum will go into low aged, this bro needs a big intervention and a meeting will happen on mon, my sis and i are attending. we will most likely give the house over and pay an enormous clean up. with that said we have been advised that housing will not entertain this bro having his own abode thru them.

tired turtle. very tired of it. almost finished it is.

Sounds frustrating, HT. Bad enough to have to deal with complex health issues of your own, but to have to handle possible surgery infections, AND deal with housing issues for all your relatives besides... your plate is full and spilling over.

Just remember, the elephant is eaten just one bite at a time. Hang in there!

Jamie I cannot find the words to give you comfort.

Only to remind you that you find peace in meditation, taking one moment at a time.

Harrowing to find out the information on cardiac units, try hard to stay level headed as it is very rare. The symptoms could be generated from your other diagnosis's plus your over load of stress. I will say healing prayers for you.

Do want you can for the family, there does come a time when even the dedicated person can do NO more.. brother is an adult, problems and all.
