I tried most of the SSRI's and did not do well on them at all..I felt emotionally numb, very sick to my stomach, very flushed, sweating profusely, etc. I tried Lexapro (which gave me permanent Tinnitus/ringing in the ears), Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta (SSNRI), etc. I was hospitalized for major depression after a bad reaction to Cymbalta back in September and the Psychiatrist felt that an older Tetracyclic medication would work better for me, which it did. I was put on Remeron (Mirtazapine) and so far, have had no bad side effects (other than increased appetitite and some weight gain) - however, I am on the highest dose..45mg and it does not come in higher doses.
I am wondering (since the SSRI's) didn't work..which antidepressant I need to go on when the Remeron stops working, (as I am sure one day it will). I have been doing research on some different tricyclics and was looking at Elavil (Amitriptilline) - does anyone take this, and what has been your experience with it? I have a friend who is on it and she said it works very well for her, but that she has to take two a day? I want to stay with the older Tricyclics or Tetracyclics, as I have a fear now of SSRI's or SSNRI's after bad experiences. Does anyone have these feelings or have tried SSRI's and are now on the older medications? Thanks for listening.
