Has anyone ever filed for disability for anxiety or depression?

I am 55, and recentlly retired from my job for 37 years due to heart/breathing problems/diabetes/arthrtis.I applyed for ssd without a lawyer and was approved after one month. I think it was because of my age, not being trained for other comparible jobs,and my health issues. Now I am battling depression issues and am trying to look at my life in a new way.

Im 48 ,i been searching for work for 7 and half yrs now. such a waste of time. 50 resumes a week sent out and 20 interview a yr and no job, and guess what i cant get a job because i dont have a husband, thats i thing, another is i dont have insurance. *** these employers are now like slave owners.yes i have had 10 to 15 really bad jobs in past 7 yrs. I cry all the time, i have no car, my home in foreclosure and my son cant go to amazing college he was accepted becasue i cant sign for 13 k loan. omg. i have wanted to die. i am so useless. i was a huge winner and i worked hard as a single parent . my kids went catholic schools and i made 23k a yr. paid apt bus, everything and now in suburbs for 12 yrs my life has gone to hell. let me say my mom had 2 nervous breaksdowns in front of me as a child. I have had catholic charities counseling for me and my kids. my kids have had counseling as teenagers. my son is fine. my daughters not. she depressed and wont go out to do errands. she gained weight. she wont appply for ssi, she is 25. im so stuck. so i been depressed and anxiety since i was 6 yrs old. i knew we were messed up family. i applied disability depression may of the year. i go drs. pychiatrist,social worker. im on meds.now. also ihave severe high blood pressure. dr do ekg monthly to make sure no heart damage. i have damage in my eyes,.i have shortl leg syndrome. one leg over inch shorter than other.
have been on anxiety meds for 15 yrs now. i will be homeless by febuary . no where to go at all. if i dont get approved, i m homeless. unwanted. period......

i have applied disability in May this year .so im waiting now and i have been diligent with faxing document s in to adjudicator disability. they dont give much time to returning documents to them. so i fax everything. I really cant continue this way. i get 74 a week in unemployment. if it wasnt for link food stamps i would be gone already. yes im outside of chicago, very cold winters. my bp keeps going up becuase im so worried about maintaining bills. i didnt use an attorney. I try on my own first. honestly i cant afford to give an attorney 6k, i completed all documents myself. Im intelligent, worked stock market and managed dr chiro office. and jr accountant. so im using my brain to see e if i can get approved on my own.

I think that there is a very good chance that you will be approved. The lawyer takes a percentage of your back pay. But trying it alone is brave, I did for the first two denials, but used a free attorney for the last one. I still didn't get it, but it is easier to get now. I hope you do.

where do i get a free attorney

Hi everyone. I had been working all my life. Last year, around June 2012, at 45, I was overcome with depression and stopped working. I experienced anxiety, high blood pressure, was afraid to leave my home. My sisters had to shop for me because I couldn't get out of my home, see other people, stopped having friends, stopped having social activities. I lost interest on TV and in relationships. I continued doing this and hoping I would get back to normal until I started having suicidal feelings in January, 2013. I felt at that point that it wasn't normal and applied for SSDI. A week later, 3rd week of January, I was having strong feelings of suicide, called 211 and was referred to the local Center for Mental Health. I had an intake appointment, (I had never talked to a therapist before), and they immediately sent me to the local psychiatric hospital where I was there for a week. After being there for a week, I told them I needed to go home and since I was voluntary they couldn't hold me. They said that they couldn't send me home and went to a residential treatment facility for 3 days. I convinced them to send me home. They set me up on outpatient visits and have been going therapy every 2 to 3 weeks and have seen 2 psychiatrists and have not felt better at all. I remember that when I was being dispatched from the hospital the psychologist told me I would have been better off staying there for a few more weeks and I didn't agree. I was diagnosed initially with severe/major depression with psychotic symptoms. Last month, the diagnosis was changed to S/M depression without psychotic symptoms plus they added OCD. I am now taking my 4th different antidepressive medication, Remeron, + Ativan, Cyproheptadine. I have not worked for over a year, applied 01/24/2013, my first psychiatrist signed a letter to receive benefits due to disability and was approved for Medicaid last month. My mental health office made me apply for SSI which I did on 05/15/13 since I had not applied before, only for SSDI. The I checked with the State disability examiner that has my case and she said it will take a few weeks for them to make a decision. Does anyone have an idea of how much longer or if I have any chance to be approved for SSDI at all? Thanks and sorry for the long letter, I just wanted to provide every detail possible for good feedback.

I was approved for disability in 2008 for half depression and half physical illnesses. Look for a Disability Attorney, they will take 25-30% of your back benefits. I called Matt Greenbaum from tv and they sent me to a local lawyer.

Make sure you have complete medical files from docs, hospitals, therapy. I got psychs to verify I could not work. It took over 2 years but was right after Katrina and busy. You have to hang in there, do not work at all and eat lotsa ramen noodles-lol

Hi All, my application was so complicated that I obtained a lawyer the first time. It still took almost 1year and I still had to call the doctors office to light fires under medical records butt to send forms.

I finally was approved back to my original date, the lawyer takes 25% or up to 6k from your back payment. But it is worth all the extra help they give you and you are about a year ahead of yourself. Probably a racket.
What are we gonna do?

The attorney wont charge you until you get a lump sum, then they only can take a percentage of it. So do talk to an attorney. They usually only take a case if they think it will win. So it wouldn't cost you.

The attorney would get your medical records or help you get them. it is really worth talking to one with free conultation.

When I went to college, I went on grants too. It really helps.

I hope you can get this figured out. Do talk to a lawyer. Get the help you deserve.

I don't think so...I think it is how busy they are and face it, you are dealing with one of the biggest bureaucracies in the US gov't.

I call disability a week ago for an update, they say they working on making decision. I should get a letter soon. they reviewing 48 pages of medical records. psychiatrist and social worker and , md..... Its been 4 months since i applied online. I never was sent to ssd drs.... But i read that if you have currents drs etc.... they use them to perform the test etc... a few friends telln me its good if it takes long time. I dont want to pay a lawyer unless i have to.... I so broke I really need it to move out of this home, I can try to modify mortgage if ssd approves me. any thoughts or advise.
