feeling dreadful on increased dose of lexapro

Hi All,

Have been taking 10mg lexapro for 3 weeks and this week my doc increased it to 20mg.  Ever since Ive felt dreadful.  Was ok on 10mg, hardly any side effects but now I feel really anxious again, shaking and feel lightheaded and sick. I'm going to ask tomorrow if I can be put back down to 10mg because I don't want to feel like this when I know I am ok on 10mg.  Has anyone else had this problem

Hi Victoria,  I'm so sorry that your having problems...Perhaps you could call your pharmacist and ask if the Lexapro could be cut in half.  Some tablets are not supposed to be broken in half as it breaks the integrity of the pill and it wont work as well.  Anyhow, if it can be cut maybe you could chop it in half and try going up on your dosage slower, like taking half for a week then try taking the other half if you tolerate the one half well.  Just a suggestion if you like...I too am real sensitive to medications and have a difficult time starting and stopping them.

I have actually been trying to analyze recently how lexapro effects me to make a plan for what medicine combo would work best for me. Its definetly difficult sometimes to judge whether a medicine's pros outweigh the cons. While lexapro helps with my depression, and it does make my physical symptoms of (mainly social) anxiety go away, the mental anxiety is still there and maybe even is raised a bit, similiar to what you say youve experienced. This new med ive been trying, cymbalta, helps with my social anxiety alot more but doesnt help my general mood near as much. The problem is that i cant combine both the lexapro and cymbalta, due to bad reactions I guess.
Anyways, what are you taking the lexapro to help with? More depression or anxiety or what?
When ive increased my dosage of lexapro in the past, I remember being more lightheaded, but not really sick or anything. Ive had less side effects from lexapro than any other med ive tried. Im extremely sensitive to meds and have tried almost all of them.
As im sure you know, everyone reacts differently to different meds so it comes down to trial and error alot of times. Hope youf find something that works well for you soon.

Im taking the lexapro for both depression and anxiety. I was so please when i coped on the 10mg and had few side effects but now on the 20mg i feel awful I had only bee taking the 10mg 3 weeks before it was increased so I may not have had the full effect from it yet anyway as it takes a while to satrt working properly doesnt it.

Hi Victoria,
I am from the ulcerative colitis forum but I pop in here at times because I too take
Lexapro. So I have questions and things.
I was on 10 mgs for 1 year and I did well but then the mood swings and such started so he upped me to 20 it took about 2 weeks before I actually felt good taking the 20 mgs. But everyone is different.
If you are doing well on 10 stay on 10 talk to your doctor about it.

I am staying on the 10mg now as I couldn't stand the way the 20mg made me feel
