Hi,

Just upped the Effexor after 10 years on lowest dose 25mg every a.m. Now the doctor said I could go up to 50 mg a day but he is an internist and didn't tell me how to take it. Is it usual to take all 50mg in the morning or should I take 25mg twice a day. He doesn't seem to care which I do. From your experiences with the drug do you notice a difference if you divide the dose or should I just get it over with once a day?

I just went from 37.5mg in the morning to 75mg morning if that helps...Good luck with that...... :-)

Thanks Countrygal. I was just wondering if taking all at once was too stimulating/sedating. I prefer to take all of mine in the morning sine it is the only med I take all day.

I am really new to this, but I thought I would try and give a little imput to the issue regarding when to take the meds. When I was starting my celexa my doctor told me to try and take it at night before I went to bed, when I recently switched to effexor I had a real hard time taking it through the day, and because I was taking 75mg I found that going back to taking it at night was best then I didn't feel the ugly side effects. Hope this help out.

Hi Sharann,   I take 225mg of effexor a day and I have always taken 2 doses, one in the am and one in the pm.  I take 150mg in the am and 75mg in the pm.

I take 225mg and I take it all at bedtime. So I think it's a personal choice from the look of the previous responses.

I take 150 mg in the am. I did take it 75am and 75 pm but then I had trouble sleeping. I think it should be based on how it affects you.
