me and citalopram

hi all,

i just have a question about citalopram.i have only just started to take it, but am experiencing a really tight jaw and the nasty lock jaw and grinding of teeth. has anyone else experienced this at all?? online i have only found 1 site that states this as a infrequent side effect, im not sure if it will wear off or what over time as i get use to the medication, any info is appreciated

I would contact your doctor right away. I have never taken that med. But if someone has reported having that side effect then I would be very concerned. Don't let it go on until it gets worse.

Jaw clenching and teeth grinding can be a side effect of the SSRIs like citalopram. It can also be a result of chronic anxiety or initial stimultaion from the drug itself.

I would contact your doctor to discuss the issue.

Geebs is right, jaw clenching can be a side effect of ssri's but I think that you should contact your doctor and report this side effect to him just to be on the safe side.  Its always better to check these things out.   Take care

sorry about breaking the rules.

i will go find out more about it, id have been more worried if it wasnt listed as a side effect, but as it is i may give it a day or two then consult my doctor, many thanks

I have been on ssri's for years and developed jaw problems a couple of years ago. I never knew it could be partly related to the drugs.

It doesn't usually happen, but it's a possibility, especially if you've been on higher doses for a long time. No one knows why this occurs.

Sometimes a lower dose can get rid of a side effect, while still providing good effectiveness. It's definitely worth a discussion with the doctor.
