Dr. wants me to start it . I had 2 already and feel jumpy , sickly and I just dont know . anybody else .

I am not on it, but I have read posts from people who say it has saved their life.  As for the side effects I know it may be a hard med to wean off due to the withdrawal sympotoms, but that is probably someone who has been on it long term.  Just my opinion.

Hi Razzle,

Like Kitt, I have not taken Effexor but many people on here have told us how good it is. See if you can manage to keep on with them for 4-6 weeks. The side effects may calm down after that as your body gets used to the med.

I've been on effexor for three months/// side effects went away in about a week for me.. but every time the dose was raised i had the side effects for another week..and they get worse.  the effexor didnt help me, but it could be the antidepressant for you

My wife tried it and really changed - not for the better in my opinion. I have read many people's stories of success, but I've also heard about bad reactions such as my wife's. Now, she didn't feel that she had a bad reaction, but I certainly noticed a negative change in her overall attitude.

I'm sure it's different for everyone, naturally, but it'd be good to have someone who knows you give you feedback on how you are doing on it as well as your own.

Thanks for the replies buttttttttttt OMG , it was a nightmare . Temors , pain , I couldnt open my hands the next day . Not for me. thanks

Hi razzle

My husband took Effexor for 2.5 years and only stopped recently. He also had some bad side effects initially some of which went away, some of which didn't after a few weeks. He was still having bad muscle twitches during his sleep and also had a continuous problem where he struggle to urinate which he had no sign of before the Effexor. It worked for him for a while but for the past few months has not been having any effect which is why he stopped taking it. Also once you have been on it for a while the withdrawal effects are really bad. I have heard this from others including his pdoc and they were for him. For several weeks he felt terrible, felt dizzy all the time couldn't move his head hardly due to this and was having weird brain zaps all of the time along with flu symptoms.

BUT, I know it has worked for others.

Good luck with finding something else if this is not suitable.

I took Effexor from March 2004 to January 2007 after being diagnosed with major depression.

Good effects: Less depression, more energy, less obsessive thoughts on past mistakes, felt like I was caffeinated all the time

Bad effects: Involuntary muscle twitches like a leg or back muscle, incredible nausea/sick to stomach feeling, insomnia, manic behavior, poor judgment, frequent urination, fogginess, memory problems


I'm normally a very careful person, so when I say poor judgment - I mean horrible judgment. I don't want to get into it on a public forum but if you PM me I can explain it.


My depression has been getting worse these last three weeks, so I'm considering trying another anti-depressant. I've been dwelling on my flaws obsessively. I really don't want to use Effexor anymore. I plan to call my doctor this week to make an appointment.
