My hospital lab says that anything under 6.0 is normal- whatever THAT means-lol.
I hover right around 5.0 which is probably as close to fergusc's definition as I'm ever going to get.
My doctor is more concerned with the 'trifecta' of A1c, blood pressure, and lipid profile these days than A1c alone. Diabetes is a microvascular and macrovascular disease- and blood sugar level is just one part of it. Daily exercise goes a long way in the fight for normal blood pressure and good cholesterol numbers.
Heart disease is the number one killer of diabetics worldwide, and current research is showing that diabetics have all sorts of gene mutations that link diabetes and cardiovascular abnormalities together.
Your upward trend may be as simple as too many goodies as Jeannie suggested- or it could be something more. I hope you can get it resolved soon.
