I am new to the Diabetes forum, however in the past week I have had some serious questions regarding a med suggested for my MS pain. The response to my post was so GREAT and helpful I thought I'd jot over here and check out the Diabetes forum.
I am a 61 yr old woman dx Jan of 2007. I took Metformin and went on a strict low carb diet. I went from 209 lb to 159 since dx. June 1 this year my Dr started me on beyetta 5, the first 3 weeks I had to practically force food down (and I was always hungry before. Now some appetite has returned and I still have an upset stomach from time to time. No other side effects except some slow weight loss (5 lbs off as of today). Since my MS prohibits much exercise, anything that lowers the weight is a godsend. I also take Metformin 2 x day. On the Beyetts my blood sugars have finally begun to level out. I have only had a few real high readings (360-398) and seldom lows. I spent a lot of time "out" on the floor with hypo before Byetta. Hubby likes that, he doesn't have to push OJ down me without trying to drown me!
So far I am thrilled with Beyetta except for the cost. My Medicare RX plan reached the Gap in May so it's out of pocket for me. Hubby is retired on Social Security so it's a wee bit of a burden. We make too much to qualify for assistance, but they don't take into consideration my med out of pockets, mortgage etc. Oh well, it is still a small price to pay to even out the blood sugars the way it has.
Sorry, I tend to type too long of posts - hubby says it's because I also talk too much. LOL. Thanks for being here. This is the best site I have found on the internet!
