I too have type 1 diabetes (since 1983 so that's 25 years) and am 35 now. I have diagnosed carpel tunnel in both wrists. Unfortuantely, we long-term diabetics are very prone to nerve disfunction (not just in the feet) and this is one of those things. Our nerves injure more easily than others and are much slower to heal, if at all.
I type and sleep with a splint on both hands to keep them from flexing and it helps, as does Advil when it is really bad. Have you had a nerve conduction test done to confirm? They may recommend surgery to fix it if it's interferring in your abilty to work or function.
