The words "glucose
serum" threw me when I read your post. Since I'm not in the medical field, I had to look it up to see exactly what it referred to and learned it's the same as the term 'blood sugar', so now I learned something! Anyway, yes, this is blood sugar or blood glucose and is the level of 'sugar' in the blood when we're tested. If you have read our stickies at the top of Diabetes here, then you understand that carbohydrates like potatoes, bread, cakes, candy, etc. will raise our blood sugar. If you don't have a blood glucose (blood sugar) meter, I would suggest that you get one. You can ask your doctor for a prescript
ion for one and get it at a pharmacy, and either ask the pharmacist or the technician there to show you how to use it or take it to your doctor's office and have them show you. If you don't have insurance, or even if you do, you can buy a ReliOn at WalMart for a reasonable cost, or you can go to the websites of Bayer and OneTouch and ask for a free one. You are lucky right now in that your blood sugar is not critically high and you may be able to control it just by diet and exercise. You need to know that elevated blood sugar over a period of time (which varies per person) can lead to organ damage, so it's in your best interest to learn all you can about
this. You can take control over many aspects of your health, honest!
