Genetic testing for drug reactions

My Mom who is also a diabetic and has extensive PAD and other cardio-vascular problems was told to try Plavix even though she has reacted to it before. IF she reacts again, they are going to do a mouth swab test to determine if she has a genetic marker that will not allow her body to absorb the drug. So I began researching to see if science is really beginning to catch up to those of us who are allergic or have adverse reactions to almost all medications. It seems the genetic marker for plavix also applies to ORAL DIABETIC MEDICATION. Here is the url if you want to do more research. I really really hope that we are at the dawn of a new medical era where we will all receive individualized therapy...which we as diabetics already KNOW that we have to treat our diabetes differently from one person to the next.

That is EXACTLY what I asked her! She said she thought she would try it first. I also got her to take Omega 3 to try to help the plaque. Natural remedies work so much better for us. But I definitely would have asked more questions.

Thanks Lanie. I had heard about this. You know, I believe in the future that we will be treated with more natural medicines. So many medicines are prescribed now that the next generation will probably look back and wonder why we took so many chemicals. The panel of blood tests we take now were once considered too expensive to prescribe on a regular basis. Maybe in the future the genetic testing will be an inexpensive way to see if you can take certain medications.....or even to change the problem in the first place.
