I don't know what to say about this. It would seem that at least one of those sizes would work. I'm still concerned that the only explanation from the doctor is that the swelling is because of varicose veins - I think that's what you'd written?
If the swelling is temporary because of standing on your feet for a long time or sitting (like on a long flight), I believe the swelling would go away after putting your feet up, as you resume normal activities, etc. But if this swelling just stays and stays and it's because of the veins, has the doctor suggested anything to increase the circulation there? This is what I would be worried about. Has he done the proper lab tests for organ function? Heart, kidneys, liver, etc.? If you have diabetes, circulation is particularly important in your extremities - I guess you realize the problems there.

I came across this when I was looking for more information.
