I am a type 2 diabetic. I have been getting headaches at the back of my head & neck & it feels like my head is just going to explode. Has anyone had this too? What have you found that it is & what has helped it for you?

Hi and welcome. I have not had this. I don't know if it's associated with your blood sugar but it's possible IF you are having very low or very high blood sugar episodes. Do you know what your blood sugar is when you're having these headaches?

From your description, it sounds more like a tension headache. Often massaging the muscles at the base of your skull and into the back of your neck or applying moist heat will help.

If it's not tension but it sounds like it remember stress can be a killer, check your sugar levels

Yes, everytime it has been a low sugar reading

Hi again. If your blood sugar is lower than 80 and you have headaches at that time, it might be from low blood sugar. However, it's hard to say because as Judy suggested, it might also be tension. So, the only thing I would suggest is to try to keep your blood sugar more level.

Why is it going low? Are you are on medication for diabetes or other conditions? Finding the cause of the low blood sugar is important to see if that's what is causing the headaches.

My sugar in the morning has been mostly somewhere in the 80's. I take Novalog insulin shots before each meal. I have an appointment to see the DR. Friday to go over everything.

Your morning blood sugar seems to be great! Good luck with your doctor's visit. I hope you can find out what's going on. Keep us updated.

Low sugars use to cause me headaches when I was on syringes, now that I am on the pump I don't seem to get them
