HI all, got a question, I know that us diabetics have a hard time healing but does anyone know if it will also cause blood sugar to go nuts as well. Already have had cortisone injections and that was not a good thing. It blew me through the roof and took too long to come down. Incacf not sure of the high number cause could it still be the injections or the healing of the bones. I am ok with it but endocrinologist is going nuts over my #'s and it raising my aic to very high level any ideas or feed bace will be great. And as in the past i thank all of you for all your fedback and help thanks and keep them #'s down. scool

Hello again! Well, as you know, steroids (cortisone, etc.) absolutely will raise your blood sugar very high. The longer you're on them and the higher the dosage, the longer it will take to come out of your system even after you taper off. The shots will also cause this but from my experience, the recovery time for the blood sugar is faster with shots.

Pain and stress (both physical and emotional) both cause high blood sugar and that will vary with the person, so if you're still experiencing pain, then it might very well be affecting your blood sugar even if you haven't had injections for awhile.

I once had such a bad headache that it made me throw up (I don't get migraines but I really don't know where this headache came from.) and when I took my blood sugar, it was sky high for a few hours.

The best help for yourself is to watch your carb intake as that will keep your blood sugar elevated, too.

Thanks Lanie qppreciate it. Just has been a few weks since shots and they are takeingtoo long to wear off I feel.am watching carb intake, thanks to you . And as far as pain that is somewhat gone right now cept when i have pt. And agree on stress tha i know does a number on your blod sugar. but was just wondering if anyone had any clue if bone healing can cause blod sugar to go up as well.

Stress and pain def mess with BS..I wear an insulin pump and when I get my hip injections I use five times more per hour for several days. My endocrinologist knew exactly what I needed to do. Perhaps you need a new endo doc? Good luck

Blood sugars are always raised by cortisone shots and is scary for diabetic ppl ,i am always wary of them.

Sorry for you having to deal with so much ~low carb is way to go when A1c is high.

I am trying to be on strict low carb diet.

my yo-yos with blood sugar is making my panic/anxiety attacks go in loops.

Cilly, can you invest in an insulin pump? It is like a pancreas in your pocket..so much per hour to live, and when you eat, enter carb amount and it calculates for you....its awesome. There is one that has a sensor and you know what your BS is 24/7....awesome technology! Good luck

oh yes i can but my endo does not think i need one yet !

so can't get until approved by doc~

Cilly, I wish you the best....I'm hoping to get the sensor soon. My A1C is 7, but would love to have it...if you have yo yo BS, a pump would be a good decision.
