Good morning! Normally, when a diabetic patient has to have cortisone shots (or any steroid meds), the regular doctor will advise a change in the diabetes medication to cover the high blood sugar from the shots. The blood sugar is supposed to be monitored closely and the medication adjusted. That's what's
supposedto happen.
I didn't know there was a relationship between Lipitor and blood sugar. Read this:
www.drugwatch.com/lipitor/diabetes/ So, again this is something the doctor needs to take into account when prescribing it and her meds need to be adjusted.
I was prescribed a statin years ago but I told my doctor I wasn't going to take it after I'd read about
too many side effects on the liver. So, I'm taking krill oil, which is over the counter, and is available in several different brands. However, what I am ALSO doing is taking a quarter of a statin pill she prescribed (simvastatin, a generic for Zocor) twice a week. I told my doctor that was what I was doing and why and she's ok with that. My last lab reports for cholesterol were fine. By the way, doctors say the parameters for diabetics are different, stricter, than for non-diabetic patients.
Also, it's possible that your mom needs to have different diabetes meds or different dosages because of the rising blood sugar. In any case, you need to clearly tell her doctor about
these latest blood sugar readings. Good luck.
