Had some trouble with metaformin tonight. Severe upset stomach . ..ugh

Took some medicine and it stopped, but worried it will be a daily thing. Had the same thing happen when I was taking metatrexate for my RA. I'm calling the doctor asap If it continues.

I'm sorry about that. How did you take it? Just before eating? What did you eat after you took it?

I ate then took it right after. I had some milk with and wonder if it reacted with it. I don't drink milk that often.

No upset stomach today but a lot of gas and heartburn.

Fasting was 157 this morning then 147 After lunch. I couldn't test regular today due to sitting with my father at the hospital. He was having chest pains and needed to be admitted.

I hope your dad is doing ok. How is he? Just be there and don't worry about testing.

I don't know if milk reacts with the metformin. You might ask the doctor if you can cut the pills in half. The pharmacist had suggested that to me back when I started, so I know it's not unusual. I take the pill and then I eat. Again, I don't know if even that makes a difference.

I'm sure this is a stressful time. Stress and pain can both affect blood sugar.

I hope today is better for your dad and for you!

My dad was in intensive care for a week in December...

Dad had to have a heart stent put in with 85% blockage. This makes stent #7 for him.
We left him smiling and sitting up in bed at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the stress has my sugar up and my fibromyalgia flaring.

My dad recovered, thanks, Lanie. He does not remember anything from the 2-week period he was being monitored in the hospital, of which 1 week in ICU. He did have a skull fracture after all. He's up on his feet. His walking is still a bit "uncertain" but he acts exactly as he used to, so it's all good now.
