We have an inside cat who is almost 16 but is very agile, sleek and healthy. Last night she and I both saw a small mouse scoot behind a bookcase in her room as I was putting her to bed. (Long story, yes, her room is our daughter's old room and she sleeps in there at night, special bed, toys, blankie, and a nummy.) Anyhoo, we saw a mouse. Miss Cat ran to the bookshelf but of course the mouse wouldn't dare come out. I have no idea where this thing came from and it was in a room that a CAT sleeps in? What a dopey mouse. So, I moved all of the cat's things into a guest bedroom and my daughter came over and we tore her bedroom apart, moved everything and did find evidence of the mouse having been there awhile. No mouse though, so we stuffed towels under the doors in hope that it won't find its way to the rest of the house, and in the meantime I bought a couple of humane mouse traps. And now we wait.
How could my cat not have been agitated that a mouse was in there? She never told me! She never acted strange. And why would a mouse want to be anywhere near a cat? This is the strangest thing to me.
Tomorrow I'll be putting more traps in the attic. Ugh. Always something.

Cats are attracted by sound and movement. Mice are active mostly at night. The mouse could of been quiet during the day and roam at night while you're asleep.

I don't envy you....I hate dealing with things like that. Mice freak me out....but kudos to you, for using humane traps! :)
I hope it all works out without too much more trouble.

Maybe the cat had a secret playmate and that's why she never told you...

A secret playmate, hmm. lol! Well, we haven't found it yet, traps are still empty. Not knowing where it went is worse than knowing it was in the cat's room to begin with!

After 16 years of being inside, my guess is your cat doesn't remember it is supposed to catch that mouse! Alternatively, she found it in another part of the house and stashed it in her room to play with later.
My 15 yr old cat goes outside for an hour or two on nice days, and seldom goes outside my small patio area. However, she has always been a 'catch and release' cat with a soft mouth. She has brought me snakes, anoles (small green lizards), skinks (small black lizards w/blue stripes), baby doves, chipmunks, baby squirrels... she brings then in, sets them beside me, holds 'em down with her foot, and meows. Very, very seldom are they harmed.
I guess she thinks I want to play, too, as then I have to capture them and take them back outside!
Silly kittens!
I just had to wiggle around on the sofa tying to get out from under her without disturbing her - she was sleeping on the blanket that was over me. I think she giggles as I gyrate my way loose.

Cats. Mine likes to sleep on a pillow on my lap when basketball is on. I have a feeling this mouse came down from the attic by way of the bathroom pipes under the sink. There are gaps there in the wall and there aren't any holes in walls anywhere. We had a very cold winter and maybe a field mouse got into the attic, so I'm going to put traps there too. Very frustrating.

My cat is terrified of my vibrating chair. The first day I got it he was sitting in my lap when I turned on the massage motor. He shot straight up in the air and leaped out of my lap in one bound. It took me 10 minutes to stop laughing.
Now he won't get within 2 feet of it. LOL!

There was a mouse in our house once. I guess it snuck in when the garage door was left
open. Anyways we put like 3 baits out and it never even attempted to go near them. He/She tore up and ate a bunch of paper around the house though! I could hear it at night munching away even!
I've heard that mice can actually get under things roughly 2 to 3 times less than their size.
Eventually we were able to scoot the mouse out to the garage though after like 3 days. I think it ended up dying in the garage.

Wecome kthart! We haven't seen or heard the mouse and it hasn't been caught. I'm thinking and hoping it left the house. We had a very cold winter and maybe it was just looking for warmth. In any case, our cat sure didn't care.

Hi again, kthart. We used to live in WPB and had bugs galore. Don't miss that! Or the hurricanes.
