I have been researching the prescriptions available for diabetes. I am not taking a back seat in my treatment. I'm considering victoza. Its not insulin but is supposed to bring your sugars down and once a day. I know I'll also need a oral pill to but with this it should help. Anyone have any experience with victoza. Its more expensive but most other meds are. I see there is a discount card for it so I will have to see. Today I'm calling for an appointment to change my meds

I've been doing a lot of research. Most oral meds are metformin based so im thinking I'm going to push for victoza and if I need another med then tradjenta. Even insulin is better then how I'm feeling now. I go tomorrow at 915. I think it's my diabetes so I should determine what I take.

I think an endo, specifically one who has a lot of experience treating diabetics, would be the best doctor to talk to about different kinds of diabetes meds. My own doctor is a GP and honestly I wouldn't ask her about the different kinds of meds for diabetes other than metformin. Metformin is the first one prescribed generally and has been around a long time, but further than that, I would probably want to talk to an endo.

They were going to start me on januvia but the cost was to much out of pocket. I couldn't afford it so I am now on the smallest dose of victoza. Next month he is going to put me on cholesterol medicine and medicine to protect my kidneys and medicine for urinary incontinence. Hopefully the pharmacist will show me how to set the pen up and how to use it.

I'm sure the pharmacist will show you how to use it. And you can also request the nurse at your doctor's office for instructions. My blood pressure medication also protects the kidneys, which is why my original doctor started prescribing it when my BP needed to be controlled.

If you're also dealing with urinary incontinence, see if kegel exercises can help with that.

Doing the shot was easy. So far no side effects. I don't have a headache for the first time in almost two weeks. There is pressure but I think it is from having a headache so long. The shot didn't even hurt. Last night I burnt dinner so I had to eat out and with no meds all day my sugar was 200 but when I woke up it was at 121. Normally if I'm at 200 at night my fbg is in the 150 to 160. I think this medicine will work out for me I hope. The injection site was a little tender after and I can see the spot I injected. I need to get some alchol swabs to wipe the pen and wipe the injection sites to avoid infections

It may take a little time for your blood sugar to level out and of course that also depends on what you eat. I hope this works out better for you.

Lanie I feel like a normal person again. It feels great. Other than after drinking I pee a lot more. Going to get some azo until I can get a medicine for it

I'm glad you're feeling more normal but I'm sorry about the UTI. If it's not one thing, it's another! I hope you feel better soon.

Very frustrated. My bloodwork came back. Kidney and liver are good but I'm anemic and my a1c went up to 6.6. He says it will go down but it feels like failure when I'm doing everything right and still fails. Shows metformin was not working for me. Seeing better numbers with victoza

Don't be worried about this A1c. It's only the average of the past 90 days and has nothing (or not much) to do with what your blood sugar is now. In three months, you'll probably have another A1c and that will be interesting to see the difference at that time because you will have been on Victoza the whole time.

And you should be very happy the kidney and liver results are normal! That's really good news!

What is your doctor going to do about the anemia? Are you going to take iron supplements? I'm anemic too, that's why I'm curious.

I don't know yet. I have to see my obgyn to see if something can do about my heavy periods and he will probably give me some meds for it to. Ill find out on April 14

I spent several mos on Victoza before switching to Bydureon because if my ins. I liked it and stuck it out through the side effects. While I was taking it, my FBS was a little higher than with just insulin, but it was great for the rest of the day. Dropped the Novalog altogether and was way down on Lantus, plus only one shot a day was great.
