Most people have a vitamin D deficiency. We do not spend enough time in the sun. Vitamin D plays a role in insulin resistance. It would be wise to have your vitamin D level check and take appropriate steps to get it in a good range.

I've been taking 5000 units of vitamin D3 for three years now. Last year my level finally got into the "normal" range.

There have been many studies that conclude vitamin D
3
deficiency in a large percentage of the population. Patients can ask for tests to see their levels.
The "natural news" site is an example of paranoia which publishes anti-vaccine, anti-government and I think anti-clear thinking thanks to the freedom of the press granted by the government in this country. Please do not cite any more articles from there as they will be deleted.
eat2bwell, if you are diabetic, I welcome your posts about
your life and experience with diabetes and blood sugar but if your posts here are to spread anxiety about
conspiracy theories regarding health, I will delete them. Thank you.

Sorry, I didn't realize there were certain sites which were forbidden. The reason I used that article was it was the best I found explaining vitamin D deficiency and how to address the problem. I assumed my vitamin D was OK since I ate salmon, took fish oil supplements and cod liver oil. When I had the test run I was severely deficient. The only way to find out if your deficient is to have your doctor run the test. I have never seen vitamin D mentioned on this site and thought it might have some value in helping some with insulin resistance. I am not trying to spread anxiety or a conspiracy theory in any way. Just posting things which might be helpful with insulin resistance. If a proper diet is not enough there could be other things which are helpful. The one article I listed refers to a study showing good vitamin D levels help with insulin resistance.

As I wrote, there are many people who are deficient in Vitamin D, and I think we need to be pro-active about
our health and learn as much as we can from different sources but not from questionable online sources which spread conspiracy theories. That was my only point.

Hi Will! I hope you're doing well. I never realized there would be a reason not to take vitamin D for heart patients. That's a good reminder to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements!

The article I posted suggest we all should be TESTED for vitamin D levels. Every doctor will have his own opinion as to the correct level. Not sure how they determine the correct level. Maybe sick people need more vitamins and minerals? Evidence show that people with low levels of vitamin D have a higher incident of death.

I'm fine. Haha. Tired of hot weather! It's been a long hot summer. Sounds like that would be a good title for a movie...

For as long as I can remember, I have had a low level of vitamin D. I have been taking 6,000 IUs for several years now, and am within the normal range. I have it checked each year with my wellness exam and other blood parameters. I had to experiment a bit to get the dosage that works for me. I started lower and snuck up on it. Vitamin D has been shown to be beneficial in fighting cancer and other diseases too. Everybody should check their D levels regularly.

I thought I was OK on vitamin D since I ate salmon and took a multivitamin but that wasn't the case. When I first check my vitamin D level it was 18 ng/ml. I go to the VA for my medical testing and they recommend a level between 30 - 90 ng/ml. It took me 5000 IU of vitamin D3 to get my level up to 72 ng/ml. Vitamin D has shown benefit in fighting all disease. I prefer to get my vitamins and minerals naturally instead of taking supplements. Our bodies were design to get the vitamin D from the sun. Decided to try and get the vitamin D from the sun since the sun has other benefits. In the summer time would take a walk around noon in the sun and in the winter I have a sun screen in the basement and spent 10 minutes a day in front of it. It worked. When I had my level checked it was 73 ng/ml. There are other benefits from sun exposure since it lowers blood pressure and it is the natural way that nature intended for us to get the vitamin D. Why many are deficient is a change in life style. People work inside and spend their free time in front of a computer. Get tested.
