Just a bit of encouragement for those more newly diagnosed and struggling with achieving the diet/lifestyle/medication balance. On my last visit to my doctor, I was delighted to learn that my A1C was down to 5.7. Normal, baby! That has been my goal all along, not to be within the "diabetic normal" range but the real normal range.

Wonderful! Job well done! That's a great a1c to be at. I got mine back. I'm on Pred but I managed to get a 6.6...Diabetic range which is okay since I'm a Diabetic. :) Happy to hear yours Jujub.

Cilly, I take 100 mg of Metformin twice daily. I eat a limited-carb diet and I have a hard workout at least three times a week. Being very consistent with my program has worked wonders for me.

Hello, all. I'm continuing to do well as far as my BGL goes, however have a new challenge. Over the past 8 months I have been falling more and more frequently. I don't pass out, I'm not dizzy, I just... fall on my face. My primary care doctor referred me for a neurology evaluation. Last week I had an EMG and evoked response nerve conduction testing in my lower legs, performed by the doctor. He said the results showed only mild neuropathy, but also signs of pressure on nerves at the spine. I also had an MRI of my head, but of course no report on that yet. I'm in PT twice a week, working on balance activities, and that does seem to be helping some. Right now I'm just being really careful as I move around and waiting for the outcome of all the tests.
Nothing is ever simple or clear-cut for us, is it?

Oh, gee. Is this a muscular problem or nerve problem? I'm glad you're have these tests done. I'm sorry for this new challenge but glad the blood sugar is under control.
Yes, it's always something. This fall (I mean 'autumn'.) I had a second bout of benign positional vertigo. It will come up at night in bed and is definitely made worse depending on which side I'm lying on. It usually goes away during the day but will come back when I'm prone. I've learned to minimize it especially when it's really bad - and it's only been really bad once. The rest of the time, it's in the background but 'there'. Now it seems to have gone away, but I know it may come back.
Sometimes i am me (HT)...

Do you try the Epley Maneuver for your vertigo?
/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epley_maneuver
You can find other websites that describe it better than Wikipedia does, and do it (with help) at home. Sometimes it helps mine, sometimes it doesn't.

The thing is, I don't have vertigo. There's no sensation of dizziness or of the surface under me moving, and no faintness. I'm thinking it seems more like a CNS thing, like my body just continues moving in a direction once I start it. It doesn't happen every time, but it's like I step on the scales in the doctor's office and I'm really glad there's a post there to hold onto, because my feet want to just keep rolling forward out of that step. Sometimes I don't even have that feeling, I'm just on the ground. Oddly enough, if I trip myself on something I can almost always catch myself and save it.
My EMG showed neuropathy, but also "pinched nerves" at the spine. Still haven't fallen since the first week in January, so far so good.

Oh, sorry, I was addressing Lanie G's comment about
benign positional vertigo when I mentioned the Epley maneuver. (Although it couldn't hurt to try it.)
I think I know what you are talking about
, JuJub - sorta' feels like you are swimming? In the water even when you stop, you don't stop right away - the same feeling as that? I've felt that when I've taken some of my medication and haven't had enough food - not dizzy, just not really very well grounded, either.
I assume they started with the simple things like checking your ears?

Lynnwood, I've read about
the Epley Maneuver but to be honest my mind tells me I would feel worse at the time I have it. Just the sensation of moving quickly would make me 'feel' worse'. (I don't have it now so I could handle it.)
Judy, if you have pinched nerves in the spine, does this mean you don't have pain but that you don't have the feeling that you're walking?
