I haven’t posted in a while but thought this might help you all a bit. A year ago January, before Covid, I decided to try KETO after consulting with my doctor. She warned me to be aware of low potassium levels because I’m on a water pill for high blood pressure. I lived on eggs, cheese, butter, some bacon and sausage, other meats, and salad greens for about
two months.
At my 3 month checkup my A1c was 5.1. My doctor asked about
low blood sugar events and I told her there had been a few where I needed candy to get by. She decided to cut my meds in half. I got it up to 5.8 at the next visit and by then I’d lost about
35 lbs. I did add back pizza including the crust(!) as the quarantine wore on. I noticed my pulse was running around 50 and knew that it was probably because of low potassium. I also added some potassium rich fruits to my food plan and carried on.
I live in Michigan and our Governess, the Almighty Queen of the Two Peninsulas has kept us locked down for a year so sometimes we just go bonkers and make
cookies or buy ice cream to stay sane. Although I’ve kept those pounds off my A1c is up to 6.2 where my doctor likes it with no lows. The 5.1 happened when I was only eating KETO but I need my fruits to stay healthy.
If anyone is wondering about
how well this food plan works, it works. It’s difficult to learn to love eggs without toast 😢 but after a while it’s habit. Yes, I miss potatoes, including French fries, and bread and bagels, noodles and rice and all that. But I am happy with the weight loss and am slowly losing again.
There is a ton of info on KETO out there so you don’t need to buy into a program but please clear this with your doctor before beginning. Also, be sure to get your A1c checked every three months. Oh, and the lower carb diet helped my arthritis as a bonus. Doctor said carbs increase inflammation.
Please note. This is my experience and your body may act differently than mine. And always talk to your doctor about
different food plans.
