Lynnwood,
I have been Type 2 for almost 25 years. A1c has been as high as 11.2 but is currently 6.7. I have a trusted Endo whom I've been seeing for almost 12 years. He has tweaked my meds several times over the years. I currently inject 60units of Tresiba and bolster it with 10mg of Farxiga - - Farxiga is what caused my A1c to nosedive. I am a soda drinker and adore regular soda all washed down with Italian ices. Am I foolhardy? I don't think so, and could give a hoot what anybody else thinks. I made my choices and am content. It is my life.
I am well-familiar with Type 2. Furthermore, I also am a firm believer that oftentimes well-intentioned people who take to online arenas go far beyond what is safe, and"doctor-hopping" can be dangerous. Especially when the suggestion is spoken without knowing the WHOLE STORY. And those who so much as suggest it often go beyond what is reasonable. Second opinions, perhaps. But don't endow yourself with credentials you have not earned and licenses and certifications that do not adorn your walls, and leave the "slap in the face" to qualified people.
It is beneficial to underscore the long-term impact of diabetes, no sane person would deny that truth. Accurate information is invaluable. It is wise for a diabetic to weigh everything and then make a life choice. Some are incorrigible. Others overreact.
It is not at-issue that the ravages of some diseases are irreversible. Diabetes, kidneys, et al. Again, pointing this out is a neighborly thing to do. You also should point out that these affects build over substantial periods of time. And while the aforementioned ailments might not, at present, be curable - - they can be stabilized via some of the newer medications on the market.
And as Moderators and posters should respect the opinions of others posted in what is heralded as a free-and-
open exchange - let's leave the doctoring to the doctors, shall we?
For the record - I am not an MD. If anybody else posting herein is, it behooves them to simply say so.
