diabetic pump/insulin

My husband has been diabetic for ten eyars, he is 45, her is thin, non smoker/drinker. He has a family history of it, also high blood pressure and cholesterol, which are controled with medication. Last sept he had a silent heart attack and had triple bypass, he is superman, he went back to work in 28 days. He just tore his knee and has surgery, once again superman, back to work, off crutches in a week. Long story short...his blood level was high and they want to put him on the pump, we need to talk to anyone who has info on this, the stuff the dr gives you does not really say much. Anyone who has a comment would be appreciated

I have had a pump for 4 years . Went to a pump support meeting first , after taking 5 shots daily for several years . Had low blood sugar reactions , which were attributed to the mixture of insulin I was injecting . The patients at the support meeting all had glowing stories of how their lives had improved , so I took a chance and never regretted it .The difference is like night and day . I don't have to worry about the NPH insulin levels anymore as I take only Humalog with the pump . If there is a support group in your area , let them give you the first hand answers . They are not doctors or sales people . They speak from first hand experience . You may also want to view the Minimed web site .

i think that is a great idea, have you had any problems with the sight where you insert the line? we also have heard horror stories about the lines clogging, you get to much or not enough, also do you have a wife, how does she feel about the pump being attached or the line, I am ok as long as my huusband is, but he is not sure, thanks so much

I have only very minor irritaion , and usually toward the end of my insulin supply . Goes away when I switch infusion sites . No problems with insulin flow . Can even tie line in a knot and flow in not interrupted .

Wife was one who suggested the pump . It has greatly improved our quality of life . Don't have to calculate the NPH anymore as I now take only Humalog with the pump . Much easier to calculate using just one type of insulin .

I just wanted to thank you for your input for people using the pump. Although you may not realize it, you are a hero to many on the internet. Anyone who wants to can read our information online, not just members and not just those who post. Your positive attitude and well informed answers are a great service to any diabetics lucky enough to find HealingWell.
