GAD65-AB test question

I am curious if any of you have been tested for the GAD65-antibody. It is evidently elevated in some people with type 2 diabetes.
GAD65 is Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase. I have done some reading on it and it has an extremely important function in the synapse of nerves--in particular the brain.

If you have been--what have been your numbers?

My wife had and elevated number but currently does not have diabetes. I guess the thinking is that it may very well be present in other auto-immune diseases.

Any help that you could offer would be appreciated

All of the info I found online about this was way over my technical level... I'm not sure that it's something that most doctors would test for. If you could cite the material where you got your information I might get a better idea of what you need to know. I do know that the brain runs on pure glucose and there has been some discussion of Alzheimers possibly being a Type3 diabetes. Don't know if this fits in with what you are researching or not... Wish I could be more helpful.

One thing I can help, you may go into the control panel and change your signature any time you like. You could put your favorite quote there now that you are getting better tongue

Glutamic acid decarboxylase is an synthesizing enyzme that works on Gaba (gamma-aminobutyric acid).

I do not and will not ever understand how it functions. What I have come to believe is that Gad65 controls the chemical reaction in the synapse of neurons. I believe that when it is being attacked and loosing its effectiveness (Gad andtibody). The nerve impulse jumping the synapse and activating muscles becomes uncontrolable.

Elevated GAD-ab is found in stiff person syndrome. progressive cerebral ataxia, possibly certain forms of epilepsy and probably other neurological autoimmune diseases. (my wife is diagnosed with a incurable AI disease but also has symptoms of Stiff person syndrome--also elevated Gad-ab)

Most interestingly, evidence suggest that those with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.

I think it might be interesting if it is responsible for any diabetic symptoms.

What I have been unable to determine are the various concentration levels in the blood. The various ranges of elevation.

The test is a very simple blood test, and if what I have seen is at all accurate it might assist in determining if someone will ultimately be insulin dependent.

If anyone has access to GAD-ab numbers it would be very helpful.


By the way I probably will adjust the signature under the control panel at some point --most of us with prostate cancer have used them to help each other compare stories and numbers
