Hi Ashleychris, sorry it's taken a long time for you to get a response. The diet you're referring to is low-carbohydrate and there are several resources you can use, such as Atkins, Dr. Bernstein (he's written 2 books, one of which has recipes) and Dr. Gott's No Flour/No Sugar diet. Dr. Gott has a syndicated column in many newspapers and has also written a book, I believe. Basically, you would not eat any "white" food except cauliflower. Eat meats, chicken, fish, low-carb vegetables (which I guess would be low glycemic), cheese, eggs. No bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. These foods are rich in carbs and will raise your blood sugar. You need to be careful of packaged food because they usually have some sort of sugar or flour added. Packaged food is sometimes high in sodium, too. A low-carb diet will help you lose weight and help keep blood sugar more near normal levels. Everyone metabolizes food a little differently so you may find that you can eat beans or some winter squash or whole grain breads along with your meal and still have decent blood sugar levels. To know how it affects you, you'd have to test your blood sugar after eating to see. We've talked about
recipes a lot here and if you scan back through the past thread subjects, you'll find some interesting food ideas. Are you diabetic?
