Hi pebbles, welcome over here to Diabetes. I can imagine you are feeling overwhelmed with the two. While I don't know about
the dietary limitations for Crohn's, I can tell you simply that all forms of carbohydrates can raise blood sugar. This includes carbs from vegetables and fruit, but since each of us metabolizes sugars differently and maybe at different rates, you'd have to test yourself with your glucose monitor to see how your body reacts to certain food. I'm so sorry about
your father. Please do not despair because of the diabetes because there are lots of ways to grab control of the blood sugar and you and your doctor will be able to do that. You can eat chicken and all meats and fish, vegetables (but not potatoes), cheeses, eggs. If the doctor said "pre-diabetes", he probably means your blood sugar is on the high side of normal but creeping upwards, so you need to watch the food with carbs. Nothing made with sugar or flour. Some people can eat whole grain bread; others can't. As I said, we all metabolize carbs differently. If you need to lose weight, a low carb diet will help you do that. Adding some kind of exercise (if you don't do it already) is also important. Other members here may help you more with the Crohn/diabetes combination, so hang on. Ask questions!
