I'm not gonna tell you what to eat and be the food police but if you happen to indulge in a few extra carbs I have a helpful solution for keeping the blood sugars a bit level. Please note that this is not permission to just snarf all the mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie and cool whip that is placed before you.
This is not a cure all but it will help. Right after the 'indulgence' mix one heaping tablespoon of sugar free psyllium fiber in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it down. Follow this with another glass of water. The brand name is Metamucil but any store brand that is the same stuff will work.
I was part of a study where this procedure was tested for its ability to keep blood glucose levels from spiking after a meal.
The carbs are still absorbed into your system, this doesn't block them, but it seems to make a sort of timed release out of the foods you have consumed and slows down the spike. Hope this helps some of you.
