(Since this wasn't directed at anyone in particular, I made a new thread for you)
I've been on this board now for a few weeks, and I now want a chance to sound off.
While this is not directed at anyone or anything - I'm getting quite exasperated at reading these posts and hearing of each person's complaining about
their side effects of various diabetic and diabetic related medications and their difficulty in living with it.
We ALL have diabetes -whether it was caused by our own poor eating habits earlier in life or it is caused by family histories.
Each of us has a different degree of severity, and we react differently to different medications.
I am a type 2, age 60, who has had this for 10 years.
I've been a lifelong victim of underactive thyroid and high blood pressure - and am on levoxyl, cozaar, toprol, metformin and take aspirin - and had a stent put in me also about
10 years ago.
My basic philosophy regarding the diabetes is this
diabetes ----> limb loss+sight loss----->death
If you don't keep your diabetic condition under control - the next risk is limb loss+sight loss before death.
So I would rather do the preventive measures as uncomfortable as they are (regular exercising - diet control by restricting TYPES of FOODS) and living with the side effects of medications I've been given by my doctors.
I have a tread mill I'm on twice a week for an hour - when I'm not doing that - I'm cleaning house, cleaning the yard, doing laundry etc - but I'm DOING SOMETHING PHYSICAL to give my body exercise.
I'm a CPA - so the winter time I'm the most vulnerable - I recognize that and attempt to reduce my physically stagnant time as short as possible.
I fully recognize that it's not that easy for everyone to follow the same routine, and every diabetic is going to have a different effect from what I described above. Some victims these preventive measures unfortunately won't help has much. I'm aware of that too. There's no majic fool-proof formula for everyone.
But to continually come here and read of each and every discomfort associated with being a diabetic victim is very disheartening.
Would you rather not take these medications, not have the side effects, but increase your chances of disasterous diabetic effects?
