Just curious if anyone has a reaction to the latest announcement on Avandia. Anyone here take it and nervous about it? Wonder what next steps should be if you did use it. I hear there are going to be a lot of law suits.

I believe the latest announcement was that it was going to be severly restricted in the US. The only new precriptions are supposed to be for those who can not obtain control and they have to be counseled about the risks.

I did take it for several years. about 3 years ago my doctor pulled me off it because of the risks. While on it I developed borderline abnormal EKG so I currently see a cardiologist 2-4 times a year for monitoring. Thus far, I've been lucky and nothing else has transpired. Some other folks haven't been as lucky and had heart attacks and strokes. For me, I wouldn't recommend anyone take it.

Liz,
Your best bet is to have a well informed doctor and to keep track of any cardiac symptoms you have. As long as there are lawyers there will be lawsuits. Better to be healthy than wealthy from a lawsuit.
