Has anyone taken niaspan with glycophage/metformin? I have read on the internet all kinds of warnings about how niaspan raises your BG 21% and how it interacts with metformin.
Anyone out there who has used this successfully or had reactions? Thanks

I take 1500 mg prescription slow release Niaspan and 500 mg metformin. I don't appear to have a problem with them. The Niaspam is prescribed for a genetic marker for heart disease and the metformin is for prediabetes.

I do have flushing and itching with Niaspam, but I try to ignore it as it's the lesser evil......itching and flushing vs. developing heart disease....that's an easy decision.

I'm just now starting to learn about diabetes since I just learned about this issue from my doctor, so I'll probably be around here for a while. Glad you guys are here.

All I can tell you about Niaspan is that when I tried taking it I had SEVERE flushing with it. It was so bad that it lasted up to 12 hours and was painful and after about the 5th dose my skin started peeling just as if I had a sunburn.
