I am a type 1 Diabetic for the past 39 years and since our trip to Barbados this past February, my stomach has been acting up, doesn't matter what I eat, I am on Pantaloc and it doesn't seem to be working anymore I have been having a pain in my right side starting at my rib cage for the past month, the burning is driving me up the wall nothing I take will stop it, it has interfeared with my walks at lunch so it has been playing havoc with my Diabetes

Welcome Will.  Sorry about all this pain you're having.  I think the doctor should be testing you for other things.  Could it be the gall bladder or possibly an ulcer?

Thanks Lanie, the problem here is that my first appointment was going to be Dec 1st but I cancelled that because it was too long too wait, I have an appointment with one from around where we live Oct 1st, but I don't know if I can wait that long, so I don't know what to do

Will, I'm no doctor but those symptoms should have immediate attention.  I don't understand why your doctor(s) haven't brought you in as  soon as possible.  Can you go to an ER at a hospital near you?

That is what I was thinking of doing, going to the ER but to have to wait for 6-8 hours to getted looked at, I guess I could send the wife home instead of her waiting

Will, if I were you.....   and if I couldn't see my doctor as soon as possible for tests to be run, then I would go to the ER when another 'attack' starts, unless these pains are all the time, then I'd go now.  I had similar pain attacks years ago and it ended up to be gall bladder.  Nowadays they can take it out with a small incision laparoscopically (spelling?).  Maybe it's not gall bladder.  Could it be an ulcer?  Extreme GERD?  The point is you won't know until you have some sort of scans.  Please don't wait.

I concur. At this point going to the ER is the wisest course.

At the very worst the trip to the ER should get you into your PCP faster due to the "requirement" of a follow up visit. Just make sure the ER puts that on your discharge papers and then tell your PCP's office that when you call to make the follow up appointment.

Thanks for the support, I am classed as a brittle Diabetic so my wife has been through a lot, I am Canadian so we have different measuring levels than you do, we used to use the 80 to 120 sugar level now we use 4 to 7 for being a good level (I don't know the right terminology sorry but you get my drift), I dropped to .6 one day at work and that is when they starting calling me brittle, I drop like a rock for no reason, I will wait till next week when we go back to work to go to ER, will let you know what happens

Will do Lanie, as I said it is pretty fustrating when you can't even go for a walk it is hard to stabilze the Diabetes

It has been a couple of weeks now since we last talked, somebody suggested to try Yorgurt Capsules, I have been on them for over a week now and the stomach does not seem to bad still a bit of burning and pain in the side but not as bad, I was able to start doing my walks again at lunch, my sugar levels are starting to come back down so soon I should be able to reduce my insulin intake.......thought you would like to know

Hi Will.  I'm glad there's some improvement.  However!  If the pains continue, even if they're subsiding a little, I would still get in to see a doctor.

Oh yea I still plan to see the doctor, ever notice how after feeling crappy for so long that once you start feeling a bit better you notice your mood changes, I'm not in the mood anymore to bite somebodies head off, except maybe some at work

Well I thought everybody would like an update on me or not here goes, as i said I have been suffering for a while from what I thought was acid reflux, ends up I was having mild Heart Attacks and suffering from Angina, I had what I thought was bad acid reflux last Thursday ends up I was having a medium Heart Attack the pain was terrible, I just got home yesterday from the hospital, my whole life is upside down now I am on a totally different Diabetes routine, different type of insulin and so on

Plus my stomach problems still exist which I get checked on the 28th of this month, I will try to put this down more clearer in another thread

OMG and this has been going on for months?  You are one lucky person to have been able to live with it until it was finally diagnosed!  I hope everything's ok now.  What is your treatment for it?

Yea things are calming down, it is a whole new life style for me a lot of changes in emotions, food, diet new meds, I have lost 4 lbs already not that I have a lot to lose to begin with I am only a couple above my BMI, we are doing our first grocery today  

Meds and exercise for now

Well I ended up in the hospital again last night with my left arm feeling numb, getting up only to get the dishwasher ready to run while sleeping, when I noticed my arm starting to feel numb, so being the good old student that I am wink I grabbed my Nitro and started to do the routine of three sprays waiting five minutes in between each spray, with no luck at which time I asked my wife to call 911, the ambulance was quick to whisk me away to the hospital pumpimg me up with morphine along the way, I awoke this morning with still trouble moving my arm and the Doctor now saying it is froozen shoulder confused , how can you get froozen shoulder from watching TV shakehead

Interesting that there's even a reference to diabetes.

I'm very very glad you did go to the ER because it sounded like the beginning of a heart attack.  And I'm happy it wasn't.  :-)

Who knows how these things happen.  I supposed one might say it's all related in some way.  confused     It makes you think "what next?"  Hang in there!

Update on this thread, it turns out I had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) or mini stroke with no lingering side effects, also I am not on any new meds for it :-)
