Hi all I am in the prostate forum for few years now.

I am a prostate cancer suv for six years thanks God.

I have a couple of question that you guys may help me with.

about four months ago my primary doctor performed a full range blood test,

and the A1C came @ 5.7 he told me the range was 5.8 and that I was in the border line.My first question is is it 5.7 really the border line.

My second question is. I am checking my blood glucose level before I eat anything,

it is always about 85,87,,but since about ten days it is about 90,91,and93.

what is the normal level before any meal.it is 100 or 120.

thank you I am very concer,I think prostate cancer is hard enouhg to deal with. confused

In answer to your question today, I think your blood sugar looks great.  I went to an endocrinologist and her A1c chart said under 6.2 was 'good' for diabetics.  Non-diabetics would have A1c results in the 5s.  As you see, many or most doctors have different standards for diabetics and non-diabetics.  In any case, your 5.7 is not borderline according to my family doctor or the endocrinologist I saw.  Having blood sugar in the 90s before a meal is fine.  Yes, it has risen a little.  This could be because of several things: what you've been eating, what you've been doing, a change of other medications, if you've gained weight, etc.  It's hard to say why.  Of course it might also point to the beginning of insulin resistance or pre-diabetes.  If this is correct, then you could help bring the blood sugar down with a change of diet and adding exercise.  One way to see if you do have problems metabolizing carbs is to have the glucose tolerance test.  It's a good idea to watch your health and I'm so glad you're doing well with prostate cancer!

Gold horse, please remember that I'm not a doctor.  I'm only telling you what I learned in my own doctors' office.  If your doctor suspects that you might be heading toward diabetes, he might suggest the glucose tolerance test.  But - your blood sugar doesn't seem to be a problem according to what I've learned myself and have read about.  Maybe he wants to be cautious.  If there is diabetes in your family, that could be a concern.  Best of luck to you.  :-)
