just started a vitamin regiment of D, B complex, magnesium & calcium along with vitamin C. I am italian so the bread and pasta is going to be hard to give upI too am Italian, have diabetes in my family, and try to be vigilant by monitoring my blood sugar every day even though I am not diagnosed with diabetes. But I can tell from my blood sugar readings that if I continued with eating junk food that for sure I would be diabetic by now. One soda can elevate my numbers for several days, and I used to drink a lot of soda.
There have been some reports that gluten can raise blood sugar and I noticed that bread and pasta will elevate my next day's fasting blood glucose levels. I find that rice, corn, and quinoa do not have this effect for me. But please realize that everyone is different, Judy2's post above is a good example of that.
Get your blood levels of vitamin D tested so you know exactly where you stand and how much more you need to take. Unless you work in the sun as a lifeguard or take at least 2,000 IU each day then your levels will probably be low. Vitamin D helps prevent type I and type II diabetes.
Extra magnesium is good and I recommend a good multivitamin that will include micronutrients such as manganese, biotin, vanadium, and chromium. These help your body metabolize sugar. I take extra biotin and chromium in the form of chromium picolinate or polynicotinate. Chromium is probably the most important sugar nutrient, along with magnesium.
Since you are so anxious about
your daily numbers I really have to agree with Jim1969's advice about
getting the A1c test. I bet you will find that you are better off than you think.
