Hi I am a diabetic insulin dependent .My average level on my Hba1c's come back usually between 6.3 and 7.5. I'm in Australia .I cheat now and then but I go by the adage I can have virtually anything I like so long as it is in moderation. My doctor agrees. I have a friend who is 83 years old and she has Prendizone induced diabetes and she wants to come off the prendizone thinking her diabetes will be cured.Her doctor has given her Metformin but as t makes her feel ill and gives her diarrhoea she refuses to take it.She Also has ulcerative colitus and another bowel problem which frequently puts her in hospital. How do I get it across to her she is wrong?about her diabetes going away if that would be the case if the prendezone was stopped.Sorry about errors of spelling https://www.healingwell.com/community/emoticons/tongue.gif

Welcome, Scattercat. I would hope that your friend's doctor would explain to her the serious need to stay on her diabetes medication. Several members here have prednisone-induced diabetes and understand what your friend is going through. Yes, metformin can cause upset stomach issues and she should talk with her doctor about this. Taking metformin with food and cutting down on carbohydrates both help control the stomach issues. For yourself, I understand about 'cheating' but with the A1c results from 6.3 to 7.5, I personally think you should be more careful about your diet. Those A1c results are high.
