The Tests are back

Hi everyone....Just letting you all know that the tests that were run on me came back.  The Thyroid nodule is non-cancerous, but the EKG came back abnormal. Now I have to see a Cardiologist. I'm not worried because I have had a heart murmur for years, and the Endo said that I'll probably be able to  find out the real cause that I have the heart murmur from further tests. My new Endo has be on 10 mcg Byetta before 2 meals a day, Metformin 1000 x 2 daily, glyburide (2 with each meal), and Lantus 16 U at bedtime. Now for the first time in years I am getting BS lows sometimes at night, but usually in the mornings. This morning it was 58. I have lots of glucose tablets stocked up. I can at least tell when its low, as my vision gets weird, like when you're going to faint and its fading out. When I go back to the Endo on the 19th, we'll have lots to adjust.

Yup, it sounds like some meds need adjusting but I'm glad you're seeing these doctors now.  And that's good news about the thyroid.  In the case of a heart murmur, what is the treatment? 

Hi Chaul.  I think many people have these things and their doctors just keep a watch on it to make sure it doesn't get worse.  How are you doing otherwise?  Any snow yet?  What's the temperature now?

Hi Chaul, don't get me wrong but I got he** from my Cardiologist for having my A1C at 8.2 my first in years, was always at around 7.15 before I had my heart attack and I am also a type 1

I'm also like you with the lows, I am now up too 6 shots a day compared to two a day before and not as controlled as good, new is not always better  

No, it's not too high. It's roughly at the target which I think was 7-8. No, I don't have a pump, why would I have a pump. When I was at 7.5 the last time, she was afraid I might have hypos, which technically I was. Now it's like a rollercoaster, which is not good either. BGL is rising towards the evening, and then dropping through the floor in the morning so that I get hypos before lunch. Adjusting for that now to get a stable line also during the evening, and then I would be back under 8 in hba1c and hardly ever going over 10 in blood glucose levels. If only I could get the evenings in control, I would be good, but still I'm injecting about twice as much insulin as would be normal, my doctor thinks.

I guess the official national target is under 7, but it's subjective and the local diabetes association admits 6.7–7.6 target would be more realistic. For me, getting into the 6's would be ridiculous. I'd have hypos constantly and then spike if it's even possible to reach that low because of the spikes. If I could have a little more balanced curve in BGL, and less insulin resistance, I could safely reach low 7's, I think.

They seem to be pushing the limits lower and lower over the years. 22 years ago the original target was something vague like "as long as its well under 10" at least according to one of my doctors. Now it's suddenly under 7, just checked. The last I heard it was the 7-8 I mentioned.
