Hi Will,
My DH is a T1, has been for 28yrs. In the past several yrs he had so many problems w/ taking his shots, sooo many shots per day. He had an episode about 2 yrs ago, ended up in the cardiac unit of the ER and inpatient for about a wk. His endo recommended he get the pump. My DH finally went about the pump, went to an instructor to get settled into the use of the pump. He was told that the Medtronic was probably the easier one to learn and use. He loves his pump. He changes the site about every 3rd day, so it is one 'shot' in 3 days vs 6 shots in one day. He can also turn it off if he is going low, and it STOPS the flow of the insulin right then and there.
My DH feels like he has more control over the diabetes. He was also 'iffy' on it for a bit, but that 'visit' to the cardiac unit convinced him it was the way to go.
I'm not pushing you either way, you have to feel right about any decision you make. But if your dr is suggesting a pump, maybe ask to speak w/ a diabetes trainer to get a bit more info for you to make the right call for you.
Wishing you the best!
God bless. Alice.
