What an interesting find! Thanks for posting this. I became aware of the BCG vaccine many years ago while I was teaching foreign students. In most of Asia and some parts of the Middle East, people are given the BCG vaccine against TB, which is very prevalent over there. This led to many students testing false positive on the TB skin scratch test. Now, I wonder if this could also cause a lower incidence of diabetes in general in those areas, or at least a lower percentage of type 1.
