scar tissue, any advice would be great

Kraig 35, Type 1 Diabetic since 2000.

im quite lean and have scar tissue from injecting. my scar tissue is in my legs, stomach and waist (night mare). Found out in the summer that my scar tissue was causing my insulin to get trapped and some times not release for anything up to 4/5 hours. Doing an injection was like playing the lottery (highs of 26/29 sometimes.

i was advised to go on to a pump system and started going through the motions, preparing for my new pump (ACCU-CHEK spirit Combo).
I've been on the pump for about a month and still struggling to get my levels stable. Im still getting lumps where my needle enters my skin even had my site go septic and hardening skin.
I'm worried about what i'm going to do if the pump doesn't work? and my sites just keep getting worse.

This whole process has probably been going on for a year maybe more, what damage is this going to cause? it worrying me a lot.

im also tiered a lot, this doesn't help with my business at all as i have to have days of, weeks sometimes. im getting a mortgage with my partner next year so id love to get back to being myself and feeling good again..

Any advice would be really appreciated

Hi Kraig, been on the pump since January 3, I am using the One Touch Ping and love it now, but there was a learning curve, now besides when I am sick or do a terrible job at counting carbs my numbers have been fantastic, I have been type 1 diabetic for almost 41 years so this was a real change for me.

Kraig how are you at counting carbs could be carb problem, I was informed by my Diabetic nurse to insert the insets between waste and armpits, if you are like me you will have to shave some spots, do not insert over any hair as will not stick to well, your highs will soon be a thing of your past, so if you move your spot every three days you shouldn't really have any problems, oh yea stay away from skin moles.

If you scroll down a bit look form name if I remember right I was having some of the same problems you are have.

Are you using the angled inset or the straight in one (my technical terms )

Im situating the inlets around the top of my bum area, on my bum, lower back also around my side areas above my thighs.
is it possible to create kinks while the inlets inside you eg:
if i roll over in bed and lye on top of the cannula, because there's not much fatty tissue i feel a sharp spike almost when this happens? (im wondering if this can cause kinks?

Ive been injecting into my love handles (as you named them lol) my legs,bum i try and move them a lot but im working in a 1 foot kinda area on both sides of my body. more advice on sites would be a big help.. the only place i haven't used was my arms, not enough fat or skin or room to grab and insert my needles.

in the last two weeks i've had 3 kinks under the skin which have caused infection one lump was the size of half a golf ball. these appear more as my insulin is entering my body, and then take days/weeks to go down

i think i might get in touch with the company and see what options they can send me regards to inlets this sound like a good idea. ( Kinking of the cannula can leave lumps sometimes also, as you know. The Sure-T inset is a steel needle that doesn't kink and many have been happy with it)............. good advice thank you.

My counting is a lot better since i went on DAFNE about a year and a half ago. i also use a carbs and cals book, the app is excellent to, well worth the money.

Will!! your technical terms are perfect for me mate, i tried a small vertical inlet, this seemed to cause more lumps a lot more. i must have thick skin lol. i use the 45degree ones now.

Really appreciate you taking the time out to message me WILL and msOuchie. its nice to be able to get some real life advise rather than being told by some one who doesn't have to live this way what you should be doing.

I haven't been able to inject in my stomach for over 3 years. either side of my belly button there are two large lumps of scar tissue even thou i haven't used these sites for many years its never absorbed, holds my insulin every time, so this is a definite no go area for me.
i'm seeing a plastic surgeon about these site, they've told me they can get rid of the lumps but verry unlikely i'll be able to inject there again.

im injecting around my bum (sides) waist and hips area. arms to lean, belly scar tissue,
thigh bruised some scar tissue and very tuff skin. i suppose thats 14 years of injecting.

Have you done this, I take my pump off when I hop in the shower but this once I forgot to put it back on as was in the kitchen trying take a shot, while the wife was in the bathroom wondering what the noise was
