I hope someone can answer the following two questions.
I have two Contour meters and wonder if anyone else is using same models also?
#1- The older I bought, I believe, back in 2005 and the box reads:
Ascensi Contour 9545 1 Kit.
There is also a white sticker on the back of the box that reads: FAD 858644 / Lot SFB3B71 / EXP 2007-06 / FAD 7169 / Lot 1258075 / EXP 2007-07. Results in 15 seconds.
#2- The other (newer) I bought a few years ago (I believe). The box reads Contour 9545C 1 Kit.
There is also a white sticker on the back of the box that reads: FAD 876944 / Lot DW9LC3C558 / EXP 2011-11 / FAD 7109B / Lot 1996 / EXP 2012-06. Results in 5 seconds.
My question is should I stop using the older one (#1)?
Whenever I take a test now, I use both of them (and average the two readings), but the older one (#1) always seems to give a higher reads (usually 5-10 points).
I've been using the average of the two. Both readings are usually in the normal range. For instance this morning's fasting had the new reading 82, while the old one read 96. about 10 minutes later the new had 78 and the old had 95.
Should I just keep using both and averaging, which is causing more strips (and money) to be used and getting me a bit excited each time I see the old meter with a higher reading (which I do not need at my age)? Or should I get rid of the old one and possibly buy a new one? I notice there are sales on the newer one (similar to what I have (9545C 1 Kit).
Could it be the newer one is more accureate than the older one? Or Vice versa? There is no lab near me to do a test on each. I was thinking of buying a new kit (I notice models similar to my #2 (newer one 9545C) one are selling for a low price on Amazon. Then I could take three tests and see which ones give a similar reading. If the two newer ones gave a (fairly) similar reading, I would get rid of the oldest one #1.
Is anyone using the Contour 9545C meter?
Question #2 - W\why do I see some Contour lancets online showing a Expiration date. Do lancets expire also, similar to the strips? Or is this something that they MUST put on any type of 'medical' realted product. I don't see what could 'spoil' on a lancer.
