told I need to go on pump - advice?

Hi pez927 welcome to the forum, Why have you been told you have to go on the pump have you been using syringes how long have been Diabetic, gained weight while on insulin it's not the insulin that caused the weight gain, I've been on insulin for 42 years and I don't think it was the insulin that would cause me to gain weight just my bad habits of not eating a proper diet and exercising, also I am on the pump and it is great with it's own pitfalls

I have been told i am type 2 i dont even know the difference. I have crohns disease also and have always been really small. about 90 to 105 lbs tops. Now i am 214. Was told it was insulin. My numbers are not controlled 300-400. That is why they want to try the pump. I take prednisone so they said that brings up my dugars also.

I have been on prednisone since i was thirteen and am now forty three. No end in sight. I do watch everything i eat and exercise since i have had to do this anyway for so many years to keep the Crohns disease under control. The doctors also have me on ativan 2 mg every 4-6 hours my prednisone is 10 mg every day. I also take 8 mgs of dilaudid every six hours for pain from the crohns. I also am fighting the constant making of kidney stones every one or two months. Many surgeries on those, at least ten. My other surgeries on other parts of the body from the steroids and the eating away of the crohns disease, have added up to about 55 surgeries and over 300 hospital stays. Please someone help. Doctors are starting to really scare me. I dont know how to come down a little from the ativan and dilaudid either.i take metformin also 3 500 mgs daily.

Interesting pez927, why don't they try you first on a syringe instead to see if that works first, I don't know where you live and what your insurance situation is like but the pump is an expensive test

No depending on what type you get, I use a One Touch Ping pump which is waterproof and if I am not wrong it is the only one that is, it should be good for 3 days but I usually last 4 days, but you will have to learn not to catch it on anything if you are in Ontario your doctor will have to fill out paperwork for you to get funding yearly, don't worry about getting too much or to little that is what you nurse is for, she will set it up for you I know with my Pump I can download all my info Carb intake, Insulin, blood test results etc. all can be downloaded to your computer, you will still have to test your blood a lot during the day
