Heart Cath Procedure & Juvenille Diabetes

Has anyone here had a heart cath? I am a 43 yr old female, was diagnosed with juvenille diabetes when I was 25 years old. Kind of a late bloomer...lately, I have had significant shortness of breath, chest pressure and fatigue w/hypertension. They have scheduled a heart cath for me. I come from a family where the genetics are pretty lousy, my diabetes has been out of control for quite some time too. Just feel like I'm not really having heart problems though. Are the symptoms typically stronger then these? Are they just being super precautions?
Just was wanting to hear from others if it was experienced as well.

Hello swc. Welcome to HealingWell. Sometimes heart problems are not evident so they might be easy to ignore. Type 1 diabetics are particularly prone to heart disease (as well as kidney and eye problems among others) and if your blood sugar hasn't been under control for some time, I think you need to pursue this test for the heart.

High blood sugar can be insidious in that it may do damage even though we don't particularly feel ill or pain at the time.

Nowadays, a lot of type 1's are on the pump. What have your blood sugar levels been?

For a number of years they have been way up there. Like 250 and above. I did try the pump for about six or seven years. Even though I struggle with my diabetes, I am very physically active and just never could get use to the idea of the little thing attached to me 24/7. But, I did try it.

I'm going to go ahead with the procedure, just am hoping it's not anything and just something less then whT they are testing me for...

I would suggest that you buy The Diabetes Solution by Richard Bernstein, M.D. He is a type 1 also and a medical doctor. His book describes how to control blood sugar with meds, food and exercise.

I hope your tests comes out good for you but I also hope you can get better blood sugar control. What are you eating?

Hi swc welcome to the forum, I have had 4 of them in the past three years and yes what your describing could be your heart, remember Diabetics symptoms are totally different than your regular Josephine's smilewinkgrin it is a easy procedure to go through, remember it would take more than a couple of years of poor control to do severe damage to your heart (it doesn't help)but it probably has lot more to do with family history, as I said it is easy procedure to go threw and you should b up and running in know time yeah
